Post subject:  Accurate Shoulder Tracking

Hi,

I do a lot of work with dancers and FULL RANGE, real-time, shoulder movement is integral when tracking. As of now, when doing shoulder tests (up, down, front, back movement), it does not really register. Usually it causes the whole character to lift up and lower slightly.

And this is done with the SHOULDER TRACKING option clicked on.

I'm just wondering if this is something that was intentionally turned off (due to bugs in the IK) or is something you guys are working on and might have a solution with newer versions. I was hoping 2.0 would fix this and I don't see it anywhere in the time list you guys posted.

Many thanks!

Matt

We are still working on this. It is hard to say how much time it will take us to implement a considerably improved version of shoulder tracking.

Yeah... Ive found shoulder tracking to be pretty hit and miss in v1 too. It IS helpful Ive found to give a full rage of reach to the arm, as not having it on can cause too much "pull" on the upper body, so I usually track with it on, but delete the keys after and manually adjust in post.

However, the initial tests I did with v2 did seem to give much better results. I had a specific lil test I did of subtle movements, lil foot shift/lifts and also some shrugs and rolls of the shoulders. not great in v1... much better in v2... try it out.

Appreciate the comments!

I did try a full range motion test in V2, and it was still no where near accurate. Since I'm capturing dancers, it's important to get the full performance without any manuel keyframing (aside from obvious cleanup). I think, as they mentioned, they are working on it and hopefully for the next major update, it will be addressed. Fingers crossed. :)

Best,
Matt
