Hi, I was wondering if it could be possible that you add the ability to use 10 ps3 cams. You know the more cameras the better just like those other expensive motion capture equipment, they have up to 24 cameras. I think is very possible, right now I can use 8 cameras with no frame lost at all. The thing is that I can use 4 cameras with the 2 usb2 controllers my computer has, then I can connect camera 5 and 6 with 2 usb3 ports my mainboard has and finally camera 7 and 8 with a mini pci express usb3 card I bought, but my computer has an extra mini pci express slot so I could add another usb3 card to connect camera 9 and 10. I think this could be very nice and more advance for ipi mocap stuido

Right now 8 camera limit is hardcoded in our apps.

The tracking algorithm can theoretically use any number of cameras.

But with more than 8 cameras, a different algorithm (for example, an algorithm similar to OrganicMotion) would be more efficient (e.g. it would work faster, possibly real-time). By the way, we are in the process of researching such algorithms, so maybe in the future we will come out with a version of our software optimized for large number of cameras.

One of the limitations of current version is inefficient multi-camera calibration algorithm. We still need to upgrade it to handle the case of large number of cameras. After improving calibration, it will be possible to remove the 8 cameras limit.

nice to hear you are working in a better algorithm to make possible the use of more cameras, easier calibration process and possibly real time. In case you achieve real time, I imagine you will also develop a real time plugin for motion builder. Can you please develop a real time plugin for 3ds max also? I ask this because most applications develop plugins for motion builder and maya like faceshift and brekel kinect , and they always leave 3ds max aside. Also, if you develop that algorithm to be able to use more cameras and in real time, will this be possible with the ps3 cameras? or are you aiming for the use of vision cameras like point grey? http://ww2.ptgrey.com/GIGE
I hope , if the new algorithm is develop to have infinite cameras to use and real time, this will be possible with the ps3 cams and not with the vision cameras which are expensive . Greetings

What you just described is theoretically possible but right now it is too early to discuss it. First we need to implement new algorithms, and we do not have particular dates for now.

Hello,

Any chance the current version of IPI (meaning 3. smth :P ) has support for 10 PS EYEs ?

Tnx

The support for more cameras (up to 16) is in work now.

That sounds really great and I MEAN really great :).

But right now, in the current version 3.0.3.172, can I use 10 cameras or that hardcoded limit of 8 still applies ?

Current version is limited to 8 cameras. This limit is enforced in computations.

Thanks for your answer and I really can't wait for the increased number of cameras, again really great news. And, if I may ask, do you have a rough estimation of when this feature might be deployed ? months, end of the year ? To make the waiting a bit more easy :)

It's not an official obligation, but I think it should be ready within a couple of months.
