I would really love to see a pointcloud export to 3dsmax, or some other way to see recorded and aligned and cleaned from BG data in viewport. Since DMC's quality rarely fits the production needs, it is usually used (by me at least) as a handy 3d reference for keyframed animation. But captured biped skeleton animation often misses a lot of details in motions, as well as it needs a lot of time to track it. So I was wondering if it is possible to make a pointcloud cache export to 3ds max.

You can use the Brekel Kinect Point Cloud Pro, export the recorded point cloud as Real Flow mesh cache and import it inside Max with the Real Flow free plugin.

I would also like Ipisoft to output raw point clouds that we could view in our 3D programs alongside the solved skeletons. A sequence of .ply .obj, or Alembic .abc cache would be ideal formats.

There are many instances of prop interaction (opening an umbrella, ball bouncing, turning newspaper pages) where even the roughest clouds in world space would be key reference for further animation.

I second that,
a cleaned point cloud (no background) and a raw point cloud matched to the motion capture could be key to some great effect,
and while I love the brekel software please understand that it is really about getting
the same performance as the motion capture with 2 kinects.
One thing that comes to mind is the possibility to emit particles, create rough geo and even be able
to go into nuke to aid compositing.

I do understand that it could be just a different software connected to the same IPI.recorder
but I would not mind to see that feature in the more expensive version of the IpimocapStudio and I think people would
pay for such an option especially if the camera data with the video is output in a way that textures can be
re projected on the motion capture.

Also very interested in this.

Is there absolutely any format of program/ method of doing this?

I am a developer and don't mind getting my mitts dirty doing this.

Even if it means parsing the AVI file to extract the data.

Hope anyone can halp :)

Point cloud export is available via Biomech addon in PCD and MATLAB formats.

How do I convert PCD or MAT files to something that can be imported into 3dsmax? PRT would be my preferred format..
