That's a very interesting idea.
FYI, Jimmy|Rig does something like this when you import a character mesh that doesn't have an embedded rig--first it analyzes the volume of your mesh, figures out where the joints should go and then inserts a 'form fitted' rig for your character ready to receive mocoap. The user then has the option to adjust the position of joints if they're not not optimal.
It would be cool to see iPi Mocap Studio get something like that for automatically setting up the native Actor.
