Hi Ipi.

I've just finished tracking a few shots, assisgning the hands and head to my PS move controllers.

I'm getting occasional jitters in the controllers and therefore the corresponding hands twitch as well.

Now I'm sure it's due to a slight breakup in the signal from the controller to my laptop, but it sure would be nice to have a basic 'jitter removal/smoother' option for the left, right hand and head in the Motion Controllers window.

Thanks

And or do we apply smoothing to head and hands before or after applying motion data?

Head rotation is affected by post-processing tools regardless of the way it was obtained - by image/depth tracking or by applying motion controller data. Of course, to be affected, it should be applied before post-processing.
Hand rotations are not affected by post-processing tools. The data of motion controllers are already pre-filtered to eliminate the noise. So, in normal situation, no additional smoothing for these data needed. However, it may be required when some data loss occurs in controller's data, and there is no opportunity to reshoot (as Carder described in the original post). I think we'll add capability for hands post-processing eventually.

On my tests, I could not found any corruption of the head motion data after jitter removal or trajectory filtering. It is possible that jitter removal for head works not so good for some motion patterns which I do not have.
If you find more appealing to apply head motion data after post-processing - you are free to do that. This should not affect smoothing of other bones.
