I'd like to be able to rename the devices connected to recorder and have the names carry over into Mocap Studio. For example, renaming 'Kinect for Windows 1' to 'Kinect 1 Left' or 'Playstation Move 1' to PS Move 1 Left Hand' or 'Playstation Move 3' to 'PS Move 3 Head'. This could make associating the devices to their rig targets much easier in Mocap Studio. Thanks for listening. G. |

We were thinking about this some time ago. Thanks for reminding :) |

I'd like to have this capability as well. I'm off to pick up 4-5 used PS moves in the hopes of using them as follows: - 1 for each hand (strapped on back of hand as in DIY glove setup) - 1 for the head (attached to hardhat for DIY head track) - 1 to use as held object (knife, club, flowers, whatever) - 1 to use within a pistol/rifle scenario (those game controller adapter accessories that are sold) I will be picking up a USB bluetooth adapter that supports up to 7 devices as well. I'd REALLY like to see up to 5 PS move tracked objects working in iPi !!! :) |

A quick tip: the PS3 Move controllers send only rotation data to Recorder via BT, not position. Position is taken from a 'parent' item, i.e., your neck or arm. This means that in many situations a prop will need to be held in one hand or the other constantly to track its position. For example, if you're performer drops a rifle with a controller attached to it, the software will record the spinning motion of the weapon but it will not record the actual falling motion motion or impact with the ground Just something to keep in mind before you purchase too many controllers. thanks for the extra info, Greenlaw! I'm charging up 4 now...figured I can always parent props like clubs/knifes from the hand bone data, but thought it would be handy (no pun intended) to have an 'extra' track option with the 4th PS Move as well (got a little 'handgun' PS accessory for $6 that the PS Move fits into also). If anybody is able to go thru Gamestop, you can get used PS Moves for as low as $23 (membership cost), FYI. (But you'll also need to get a charger and cable if you don't have them.) Hopefully I can deal with hand-keying or using physics sims if necessary for any dropping type of scenario within Maya or even MotionBuilder. I'm just digging into MoBu now, so don't have a full sense of it's capability. Cheers! |

Motion Builder is one those things that can be incredibly awesome and frustrating at the same time. Oh, wait, that pretty much describes all 3D programs doesn't it? :) Any, if you're just leaning, be sure to watch the tutorial videos at 3D Buzz. These videos helped me get up and running quickly, and I still learn some advanced tricks by returning to these videos. 3D Buzz is a pay site but I think the Motion Builder videos are still free.
