im new with Ipi Recorder and tested it out. I've tested it out with five Playstation3 Eye cameras which were hooked up to a mobile Workstation.
When I record with 320 x 240 I can only pick 50 fps, otherwise the fps slows down. It even slows down if i hook up two Ps eyes and configurate to 640 x 480 with 60 fps.
Whats wrong there? I have USB 3.0 and a really nice perfomance. CPU is good, Gpu is good and enough Ram, additionallly USB 3.0 (connected to an USB 3.0 Hub for more cameras). I have Windows 7 64 bit . I've tried to hook 2 and 3 ps eye cameras to another Laptop with Windows 7 32bit. And again dropping fps. It doesnt matter if I connect the cameras through Usb 3.0 Hub or not. There is always dropping fps.

Can anyone help me out? I would be very glad.

Your USB 3.0 hub probably came with a USB 3.0 cable - make sure you're using that and not a USB 2.0 cable. If you added a cable extension (to get the USB hub farther away from the computer), make sure the extension cable you used was USB 3.0, as well.

USB 3.0 cables have twice as many wires inside as a USB 2.0 cable, but they look the same.

If that's not it, see if there's a driver update for the USB 3.0 controller on your motherboard. You'll probably have to go to the motherboard manufacturer's website.

ok thank you. I will check the drivers first, because even when I connect the cameras without usb 2.0 active cables to my laptop the fps is low.

I reinstalled Windows 7 and updated the drivers and the firmware of the USB 3.0 Controller.
Now the problem is not 100 per cent solved. But anyways I can hook up now up to 3 Playstation Eye cameras without having any Fps troubles.

But if I hook one more Playstation Eye camera with an additional USB 3.0 Hub then I get really problematic Fps.

If you want to get a better understanding how I hooked them up:
- 2 Ps Eye cameras directly into USB of my Laptop
- 1 USB 3.0 HUB (with USB 3.0 cable) into USB of my Laptop
- 2 Ps Eye cameras into USB 3.0 HUB

PS3 Eye is a USB 2.0 device. While the Eye is compatible with USB 3.0, it will perform any faster than it does with USB 2.0. If you want better performance, try writing to a faster storage device, like a USB 3.0 drive or SSD.

Also, in my experience, a laptop is not sufficient for capturing from four or more PS3 Eye cameras at full speed (60fps) and resolution (640 x 480). You should probably reduce the resolution and enable a good does of compression. In any case, back when I was using a laptop with PS3 Eye setup I had to capture to faster drive to make this work, specifically an eSATA expresscard and a small RAID. Nowadays I would probably use an external SSD or just replace the internal drive with an SSD.

(BTW, I use a small SSD dedicated to iPi capture in my desktop when capturing from six PS3 Eye cameras. A good SSD is excellent for this purpose and I highly recommend it.)

I do still use the old laptop but only with Kinect. This is a five year old laptop, and I use a USB 3.0 expresscard with a USB 3.0 drive attached for capture. This setup works very well...much better than with my newer laptop (a tablet pc) which doesn't allow expresscards.

I do have got an eSATA port on my Laptop. So I hooked up an external drive with eSATA connection.
But I think you are maybe right and my external drive is too slow.

In order to use more PSeyes I will try it soon with an internal SSD drive. Hope this works.
