Hello all.. hope you're well. hope someone can help,..

I'm having problems, can't get my kinect working with ipiRecorder.. it says the kinect is ready on the home screen, but as soon as I go to record video, I get the error message:

"This API has recieved an exception from an HRESULT: 0x80004005"

I've uninstalled all the drivers countless times, reinstalled the various recommended versions, sdkv1.8, kinectpsdrv3, etc. but to no avail..

there were issues with my usb3 hub, and one of the usb controllers, but have found the one it seems happy in.. but still can't get past the above error message

now the weird thing is I remember having exactly this problem the first time I set it up.. but solved it.. I've had to wipe my computer and start from scratch, and have no idea what I did then...:/

ahh apologies you can probably tell I'm not brilliant at the tech side of things, probably missing something stupid, and yep am a Mac boy, running this in Boot camp Windows 7 with a Kinect 1.. so really hope someone can give me some tips, before I tear my hair out..

log thing attached. many thanks in advance

k6

Try all available USB ports. USB 2.0 controllers usually are better compatible with first-generation Kinect.
You should have only one driver for Kinect installed at the same time to avoid possible conflicts. Kinect SDK 1.8 is preferred.
If you use an USB extension cable to connect the Kinect, try direct connection to PC.

Hi Vmaslov

thanks for the reply..

so I uninstalled all kinect drivers and reinstalled the sdk1.8.. then tried it in all (9!) usb ports..

when plugged into the usb 3 ports, on the ipirecorder start screen, it shows a healthy Kinect, ready to use. on clicking 'record video' it returns the below API error message..

when plugged into any of the USB 2 ports, 3 on the back, two on the front, of my mac pro 3,1 (though all on the same controller) on loading up, the kinect isn't visible, though kinect audio is.. when i hit refresh, it appears, but shows the error message about not enough bandwidth (I think - the message is cut off).. nothing else is plugged in to any usb ports though.. and after another refresh it disappears, or returns a 'sensor is initializing' error message.. continually..

log attached.. any other ideas? any help would be greatly appreciated.. I got it working before, hope I can again...

thanks and best wishes

k6

Let's try using PrimeSense drivers for Kinect with iPi Recorder 2. If they work, they might fix the state of Kinect back to appropriate for Kinect SDK.
  • Uninstall Kinect SDK
  • Download and install iPi Recorder 2. Do not install Kinect SDK with it.
  • Download and install Psdrv3 driver for Kinect
  • Run iPi Recorder 2 and check whether Kinect works with it.

many thanks for the help vmaslov, appreciated..

cool, did as you suggested, and good news, it's working with iPiR2!

alas, no joy with iPiR3 though.. it doesn't show at all, on either USB2 or 3, even with a refresh...

logs attached..

any ideas what to try next..?

well, at least I can get on with some animating while we solve this..

thanks again for the help!

Mocap Studio 2 is not available for trial anymore, the download is only for existing v2 owners.
However, Mocap Studio 3 can open iPiVideo files recorded with Recorder 2. So you can go with this workflow at the moment.

Recorder 3 does not support working with Kinect with Psdrv3 driver. But successful initialization using these drivers might have fixed the condition of the device.
Now you can try to uninstall Psdrv3 and install Kinect SDK 1.8 again. Maybe it will work.

sorry for the slow reply, and to dig up an old thread, but figured it best to post here where the info is.. project got postponed, but back on now..

So, I have purchased the full Standard version of iPiRecorder/Studio 2 last Summer.. but the activation code isn't working for Studio 3, and I can't find my original 2 download (having reinstalled bootcamp windows a few times to get iPi to work).

do I need a download link for Studio 2, or a new activation code that will work for Studio 3?

many thanks in advance

I just wanted to say that same issue happened to me and this topic helped me, so thank you :)

Usual story: Everything was working fine and than it stopped :P Black screen on one of the kinects even though nothing was changed in the setup (must be windows update for kinect SDK I guess? - someone mentioned it here or in different topic).

I followed this and it resolved the issue:

However I don't have audio device from kinect any more. It's not an issue for what I'm doing now, but it would be useful to have if I would require it. I might have uninstalled other things for kinect (not just the SDK), so maybe this is it? Is there a way to stay on Psdrv3 and have audio on?
