Test case has just been completed and produced video file of the same length. All ok in our environment!

One more suppose: for performance reason iPiRecorder uses async file operations - it's possible that RAID controller is not correctly support this option. We plan to add dialog with advanced settings where one can turns on or off options like this.

Thanks Andrew!

I'm putting a USB 3.0 controller in my computer tonight or tomorrow, and will have access to a USB 3.0 drive in a couple of days, so maybe by the weekend I'll have yet another configuration to try. Let you know how that goes.

G.

By the way, some versions of Windows and some players have problems with large ( > 2GB) AVI files.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939130

Microsoft published fixes for these problems so if your Windows installation is a bit out of date you may need to download a fix from Microsoft site.

Please note that iPi Recorder uses custom implementation of AVI so if you encounter a problem in iPi Recorder then it is not related to Microsoft's bugs.

VirtualDub also has custom implementation of AVI so it should not be affected by Microsoft's bugs.

However, your video player may have a problem related to Microsoft's AVI bug. So it is always recommended to install latest service packs and hot fixes for Windows.

Also, you should not use FAT32 or FAT16 as your file system for video files because of potential problems with large files:

In version 1.4.0.74 of iPiRecorder the ability to turn on/off async I/O is added. Moreover, by default it is switched off. We hope that this improvement fix the problem with RAID controllers.

Thanks! I'm going to do another round of tests this week using some new storage options, and I'll certainly give my RAID another try. :)
