Post subject:  USB Controller problem
I would like to use 6 PS Eye cameras. My motherboard has:
On the back side: 4x USB 3.0 + 2x USB 2.0
On the front side: 2x USB 3.0 connected to the motherboard"s internal USB header.
Interesting is, USB 3.0 on the front side and USB 2.0 on the backside use the same USB controller, so I can use only 2 PS Eye cameras.

You say "When setting up a USB 3.0 controller, make sure you configure it to handle USB 2.0 traffic (as opposed to passing USB 2.0 to integrated USB 2.0 controllers in your chipset). There should be a corresponding setting in driver properties or in BIOS.", but I haven't found these settings...

First, this section about USB controllers looks quite outdated - we'll review and update it.
So, do you have actual issues when connecting 6 cameras or trying to record? Please provide more details such as
  • Do you see all 6 cameras in Recorder?
  • Does Recorder display some error messages?
  • Are you able to start recording?
  • If so, do you see issues with frame rate or frame drops?
  • Have you tried video modes with lower frame rates?
From the screenshot it looks like you only have an AMD USB controller. We have no experience with them and do not have any info about potential issues.

The problem is when I use more than 2 PS Eye cameras in: USB 2.0 on backside + USB 3.0 on the front side of the computer.
The program says "Warning! More than 2 cameras connected to the same USB controller #1".

I am confused, because how can USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 have the same controller? Your text about USB controllers would explain it, but you say it's outdated.

In SETUP tab there are frame drops. (I blurred the images to protect my privacy :))

It's actually pretty common for modern USB controllers to implement both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, so devices connected to USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports end up being served by the same physical controller. And whether USB 2.0 and 3.0 share the same bandwidth in such controller depends on its implementation I believe.

So you can connect 4 cameras but you experience frame drops.
Have you tried lower frame rate - say 30-40 fps?
Have you tried the back panel USB 3.1 ports? The specs of your mobo say that back USB 3.1 come from the CPU and back USB 2.0 + internal USB 3.1 (which are connected to the front panel I guess) come from the chipset.
BTW do you use USB extension cables? They also can introduce issues.

In any case, the recommended approach to connect the maximum number of cameras is to do it one by one, without the use of extension cables. After connecting the next camera check for issues in Recorder. In case of an issue switch the last camera to another port until the issue is gone or you have tried all remaining ports.
If you are not satisfied with the resulting number of connected cameras you can choose another video mode (lower frame rate). Or if you do not want to lower the frame rate then look for installing an additional USB controller (PCIe card) or using another PC and distributed recording.
