I was having a problem with xvid and Windows XP x64 because iPiRecorder runs as a x64 process on x64 operating systems. The xvid releases availabe are all x32. They will install on x64 machines and work with Windows Media Player x32, but won't work with native x64 apps. As a result I wasn't able to use xvid with iPirecorder and it didn't even show up as a choice.

Like some of the other posts with xvid issues, I tried ffdshow x64 codec because it claims to handle xvid format and was the only choice available for x64. I wasn't very impressed with the results, and it couldn't handle a 4 camera setup which produces a 1280x240 video.

After much frustration, I downloaded the latest vxid source code release and slogged through the process of getting a working x64 build. It was defininatly worth all the trouble. I am now able to record a 4 camera setup with fairly high exposure setting at true 30fps. It is a great codec with a considerable amount of hand coded assembly language code.

Now that I have this up and running I wanted to share the binaries with other iPi Soft users who may be having similar issues. I don't have file attachment rights on the forums, but would like to make this release available in a single zipped file. I have included installation instrucations and everything needed to get xvid up and running on x64 Windows XP and Vista. I was hoping the fourm moderator could grant attachment rights or provide email instructions if iPi Soft would like to review the file first.

By the way, Xvid official site does have a working 64-bit build of Xvid codec. To access it, you need to click "Looking for the Xvid Codec? -> get the latest version of the Xvid codec for your platform" link on top. It will get you to this page:

I have already downloaded the release you mentioned, but it isn't working on Windows XP x64. It installs x86 versions of everything which work with Media Player, but no x64 versions are installed. Maybe their installer isn't working on XP x64.

If you could check your system32 folder and see if xvidvfw.dll is there then that might tell me if it is an installer issue or if Microsoft is using some kind of emullation mode on Vista x64 to use x32 codecs. I know from numerous attempts that the files installed from the official site only install x32 versions on XP x64.

If it turns out Microsoft is emullating on Vista, you may want to try my X64 versions on your system. I have side-by-side installs working fine on my box. The x32 versions are the official release from your link, and the x64 are my builds. It might help to ferret out this codec problem if we had this extra info.

The latest build from official Xvid site works for me on Vista x64. We never tried it on XP x64, maybe this is XP-specific issue.
