This can be caused by missing video codec.
What video codec did you use to record your video?
What is the size of your video? (Is it under 2 GB?)
Alternatively, it is possible that you have some problematic video codec or video codec pack installed on your computer that causes this problem. Some old versions of DivX are known to install buggy video filters for all possible formats causing this kind of problem.

The following workaround should help: convert your video to uncompressed AVI before processing. You can use Virtual Dub ( http://www.virtualdub.org ) to convert the video, it is free.
