Feature Requests When playing back a Region of Interest, can we have the option to focus on only the ROI (Playback ROI Only)? Also, can we add a Loop Playback button with a ping-pong option? This would be useful for reviewing the file after tracking. Currently, hitting Play starts the playback from the beginning of the video. While were at it, can add editable markers to the timeline ,and be able to skip to the next or previous marker. Being able to annotate the markers would be a nice plus, but not absolutely necessary. :) This will make it easier to skip to specific areas of the timeline, and maybe double-clicking between markers could set that range as a new ROI. It would be nice to be able to apply certain features like Jitter Removal to 'sub-regions'. (Of course this option should probably fade in the process at the in/out points.) BTW, I know I can do some of what I'm requesting using the new Take feature, which is brilliant, but the timeline markers option described above is a good alternative method and more flexible in certain situations. Here's a big one: batch processing. I'm averaging about 10 secs a frame, and a 1000 frame clip took about 2.5 hours to process last night. My graphics card is a few years old so I'm not complaining about the speed so much, but it would be great to be able to look multiple 'takes' and sessions in a queue and process them overnight or when I'm away during the day. Could we get Collada export? Edit: Nevermind, I just found the Collada export option. :) Hand tracking: I know you don't track hands because this would be very difficult to do during a full body capture, but it would be great to have hands in a separate 'hands only' session, targeted to a hands only rig. This data could then be transferred to an advanced body rig that has the finger bones. (Maybe the same idea could go for head and face too?) Feet banking. It looks like the system tracks feet fairly well but doesn't track for inward banking. I imagine this is difficult but maybe it could be faked by forcing a bank correction whenever the feet get close the the ground plane? I know this isn't a mocap editing program but it would be awesome if a few more motion correction tools were added. Maybe these could be 'filters' enveloped and applied at certain marker ranges. One more request: I was wondering if the 'clean plate' at the head of a tracking session could be loaded as a separate clip and cached so it is always available even when a video clip that lacks a 'clean' range is loaded. That would be very helpful indeed. Issues When loading an Actor, the Long Sleeve option is always 'on' by default regardless of the saved actor setting. File Requester keeps defaulting to the desktop. Very annoying. Questions Jitter removal works very well. Just wondering: what does Trajectory Filtering do? Does this command optimize motion curves by removing redundant keys or is this something else entirely? That's all for now. Keep up the great work guys! Greenlaw |

One more feature request: Could we get the option to use an 'advanced' skeleton with forearm twist and fingers. Data does not need to be captured and applied by iPi DMC for this but it would be good to have these bones available for keyframing in a 3D animation package. Better yet, I'd like to be able to modify the current skeleton that's being loaded to iPi DMC, even if the modification is done outside of iPi Studio. (Though being able to do this within iPi would be cool.) I know some specific hierarchical rules and naming conventions would have to apply of course, but that added flexibility would be very useful to animators who need to edit and enhance the mocap. Thanks! Greenlaw |

Another minor bug: When selecting Collada export in the File Requester dialog, the default extension on the filename remains .bvh instead of .dae. |

Wow! Very-very useful feedback! Thank you! All mentioned bugs we'll try to fix in the next public update (in several working days). As to feature requests, we should discuss they first and then insert to the roadmap. I'm feeling, that we can implement part of them in a few months. And reply to: Quote: Jitter removal works very well. Just wondering: what does Trajectory Filtering do? Does this command optimize motion curves by removing redundant keys or is this something else entirely? Trajectory Filtering is on-the-fly smoothing: 0 - no smoothing 1 - slight smoothing (recommended for fast movements like box or run) 2 - medium smoothing (recommended for slow movements like walk or Wushu :)) higher values are not recommended (such hard smoothing kills original movements) |

Greenlaw, one note about hands in iPi DMC rig and custom skeletons: you can import your own target character (with hands and appropriate skeleton) with the aid of the last tab - "Export":

Thanks Andrew! I will try that tonight. BTW, the latest video demo is impressive! Greenlaw |

We cann't reproduce this bug :( |

Wow! Thanks for the fixes! As for the .dae format selection problem, I'll look again. Shortly after I posted that but, iPi made the selection correctly for me, but then shortly after that I noticed that it didn't again. I'm not sure what the conditions for reproducing the bug is yet but I'll do more testing soon. |
