| Post subject: | Motion Builder Warning Message for imported .bvh data |
Hi, When I import an iPi MB .bvh to Motion Builder 2011, save the file, and then reopen it, I get the following warning message: Quote: Your scene is using the "Enable MB5.5 Limits" Property on a Model. This property has been removed from the UI. Please see the documentation to update the DOF information on your rig. It is strongly recommended that you update this rig to remain compatible. I checked the documentation (no mention in 2011, but the 2010 Update doc mentions this issue) which instructs me to disable the 'Enable MB5.5 Limits' option under the Degrees of Freedom:Rotation property, but this option doesn't appear to be in 2011. Which, of course, is exactly what the message says, so I'm stumped. Is this anything I should be concerned about? Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm not sure if this message started appearing only after I adjusted the rig's scale in bvhacker. I'll post again in a few minutes. Greenlaw Edit 1: Okay, I'm back. The message DOES appear with the original iPi DMC exported Motion Builder .bvh file. I'll try characterizing the standard 'non-MB compliant' .bvh and see if it does the same thing. Edit 2: Back again, and yes I get the same message even with the standard .bvh from iPi DMC. FWIW, everything appears to work fine but, as I stated in another post, I've only been learning MB for the past week so I'm not sure what the consequences may be for ignoring the warning. |

Ah! All is good. I must have selected the wrong skeleton because now I see the option. I'm wondering if there should be an option in iPi DMC's Motion Builder .bvh exporter to enable/disable MB5.5 Limits. It sounds like this feature is not typically used anymore and probably should be off by default. Thanks for listening. G. Edit: WHOOPS! There's actually a lot more involved to updating the iPi Motion Builder .bvh rig than just disabling this option. The complete process is a bit involved and beyond my current skill level. I'm still not sure what compatibility problems may arise from ignoring the warning, so I thought I should mention it here for more expert users to consider. |

After a little more testing, it seems like I get this error when importing any .bvh file, not just from iPi DMC. In other words, I no longer believe this is specifically an iPi DMC issue. Does anybody know what this warning actually means and if there is anything I should do about it? G. |

Okay, I see this warning message even after importing and saving the .bvh file that comes with MB 2011. I'm going to assume that this is a harmless, if annoying, bug in the program. G. |

I've noticed the same thing, but it doesn't seem to affect exported bvh motion or fbx files when they are imported into other programs. I wouldn't worry about it. |

Thanks for responding! I searched everywhere for info about this alert message and couldn't find any mention of it except in the MB 2010 update .pdf, so until now I thought I was the only person seeing it and that I must be doing something wrong. Glad to hear the situation is common and nowhere near as critical as the message makes it sound. G. |
