Hi

My old laptop was:

amd turion x2 dual core 2.20 ghz
32bit
4gb ram
ati rodeon hd4530

and i was getting good results 640x on 40 fps

now changed my computer and it is :

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition 3.3GHz Turbo Core 9MB Cache
GIGABYTE 990FXA-UD7 AM3+ AMD 990FX/SB950 DDR3 2000MHz (O.C.) SATA 3.0 USB 3.0
ASUS GTX580 GDDR5 1536MB 384Bit Nvidia GeForce DX11
GSKILL 8GB (2*4GB) Ripjaws DDR3 2000MHz CL9 1.55V Dual Kit

i tried it on x64 windows 7

but with my new computer, even i got worse results than my old laptop , when i choose to 40-50 or 60 fps with 640x resolution , it is getting crazy..dropping 100-200 frames

Any idea?

It's probably related to USB.

1) Don't go through a USB HUB (unless it's a 3.0 HUB).
2) Try a different USB cable
3) Make sure you have the USB drivers for your motherboard installed. Since it's a USB 3.0 controller, you will very likely need drivers that are not part of a standard Windows install.

EDIT: Actually, rereading this, I've only used a Kinect which specifically says to not use a USB hub because of the bandwidth. I'm not sure about the PS3 Eye cameras. Since people have 6 camera setups, I don't see how they'd avoid using a USB Hub.

looks like it is fixed, tried diffirent usb ports and now getting good results with 60fps,640x and 4 ps3 cams..sometimes dropping 1-2 frames , i think will be need usb 3.0 hubs or something like it with 6 cams

I'm guessing you had more than two cameras running off a single controller. It's hard to tell which ports are associated with which controllers and sometimes the only way to find out is to try different port configurations. Just to be clear, you can only have two cameras connected to each controller, and most desktop computers only have two controllers regardless of how many physical ports are available.

This means if you have six cameras, you will almost certainly need to add a USB controller card. You can use a USB 2.0 or 3.0 card, it really doesn't matter, but you should know that a USB 3.0 will do nothing to improve the performance of a PS3 Eye camera because it's a USB 2.0 device. That said, it doesn't hurt to have a USB 3.0 card and you may be glad you have one so you can use USB 3.0 devices. For example, I use a USB 3.0 card and exteral USB 3.0 hard drive to capture Kinect data from an old laptop; I cannot do this on this laptop with an ordinary USB 2.0 drive.

On my workstation, which has two built in controllers plus a USB 3.0 controller card, I can use six PS3 Eye cameras. However, I had to add an internal SSD to be able to capture this data without dropping frames.

As far as bandwidth, since you have a USB 3.0 controller on the motherboard, you should be able to run a USB 3.0 hub off of it and connect six cameras to the 3.0 hub without running out of bandwidth. USB 3.0 controllers can handle 4.8Gbps of data. USB 2.0 controllers are limited to 480Mbps.

Since the USB 3.0 controller is 10x faster than 2.0, you should be able to run 20 PS3 cameras off of it.

Your motherboard probably has a mix of USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports available.

Thank you for information, it is really helped

i had 2 cams on 1 usb controller, so i have 2 controller (usb 2.0)

if i understood right , will be need 1 more usb 2.0 or usb 3.0 controller when i will be using 6 ps3 cams, also fast ssd ( now using fast external hd with e-sata..enough for 4 cams for now)

motherboad has two usb 3.0 ports

i plugged in 1 usb controller to usb 2.0 port which one on back of pc, and plugged in 1 usb controller to usb 2.0 port which one on front of pc then problem looks like solved for now

Good point! I've never had USB 3.0 directly on the motherboard so I wasn't thinking that way. :)

Now i have diffirent problem

Before calibration was so easy for me , even could mark 4-5 ground points.But now
everything ok while calculate till last 10 seconds, then marking ground moves being red and i cant select to ground..tried 4 times to calibration and always same

Any idea why?
