Hi all, I've just set up my two Kinect sensors, plugged them into my laptop....then launched ipi Recorder and chosen the two cameras from the Camera Selector. All happy and ready to start shooting my first test captures. .....hmmm The problem I've got is that the FPS are jittering and randomly dropping. Even though I checked the CPU usage and it all seems ok. Is it the order of USB ports that could drain the performance of ipi Recorder? I then went to change the FPS to 25 (PAL) to see if this would sort this out, but I've found that I'm not able to change the settings on both the Target framerate OR the clips' resolution. I switched ipi Recorder to see the built-in webcam on my laptop (rather than the Kinects), and it lets me change both....? Why is this? Oh, and do you use async I/O operations or not? Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks :) |

I am relatively certain you can't change the FPS or resolution that the Kinect records at. You must capture at 30 fps and 640X480 resolution. It might say this in one of the guides, not sure, but was able to find another user stating this in another thread: "Although the Kinect setup is fantastic, you are still limited in cap area size, and frame rate." Found in this thread: http://www.ipisoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5663 One thing you can do to ease the load on your PC is disable the RGB camera when you initially start iPi Recorder. Click the advanced drop down and click the check box next to 'Don't record RGB from depth sensors'. The RGB camera can help you make sense of things once you take recordings into Studio but it isn't necessary for capture/processing. I currently have 'Use Async I/O operations' checked, and that is the default. Pretty sure you are fine leaving that checked. You need to make sure you have at least two USB controllers (NOT PORTS!) on your laptop for the Kinects to work. There is information about this in the guides and on the forums.
