Hi, first off i would like to congratulate the Ipisoft team on their software which will enable low cost entry for animators. I am a video game animator for the last 13 years and i can see the high potential in Ipi Studio. can't wait to see what Kinect 2 will bring us.
On to my issues. i am currently trying a dual kinect setup but having some issues.
first issue is i can't get dual kinects working at the same time. both work on their own. i checked my Usb controllers and i do have 2. it just doesn't detect the second kinect. keep getting a yellow exclamation on the second kinect camera. i am gonna try to get a Usb express card adapter maybe it will add another Usb controller. can someone suggest another solution? plz
Second issue is the frame rate while capturing. since i could only capture with 1 kinect i tried with the latest Ipi recorder and i got really low frame rate. i had an older version of the recorder version 1.5.0.78. so i gave it a shot and i got a constant 30 FPS. wonderfull. my question is can this version 1.5.0.78 record from 2 kinects when i get the setup going?
Any help would be appreciated.
thx.

What are your PC specs like?

The yellow exclamation in the device manager is indicative of the Kinect's not being on their own USB controller. Having multiple USB ports does not mean you have multiple USB controllers. For example, on a desktop PC that has USB ports on the front of the case, those ports might still share a controller with USB ports on the back of the computer. The user guide has some tips on how to double check that you have multiple USB controllers. Also having other devices plugged into the same USB controller could hinder the your computer's ability to process the data. Hopefully this helps you get started determining the cause of your problem.

Since you mentioned getting an Expresscard, it sounds like you're using a laptop? If that's the case, it's possible that the second controller is dedicated to the laptop's built-in webcam or dock interface if available. If that's the case, you may have to disable these features to make the second controller available. Bear in mind that this is just a guess...I don't really know if it's possible to disable these features and release a controller to another device; it may depend on the computer.

However, adding the Expresscard may do the trick. The next problem you may face is the speed of your capture drive. If you have an internal SSD, it should be okay. If you have a really fast HD, maybe?

I'm assuming you tried different port combinations just to be sure you weren't using the same controller for both Kinects?

Hope this helps. Good luck!

G.

hi guys. thx for the quick reply.
Patrick, here's my laptop system specs:

i checked my usb controllers in device manager and i have 2. 1 of the usb controllers was used by the webcam. i disabled it and it still didn't detect the second controller. i am waiting for my express card to arrive. if that doesn't work i will try my friend's desktop pc. if that doesn't work i am running out of ideas.

Greenlaw. u r right, i am using a laptop. my deivce manager shows 2 usb controllers. 1 of them was used by a usb composite device (webcam) i disabled both, it freed up the usb controller but still couldn't detect the second kinect. i tried all my different usb ports with no success. concerning my harddrive i think it's a standard one:

it might be a problem if i don't have a SSD drive, but why do i get a good FPS with an older version of the recorder? it doesn't make sense. i also have a Geforce G210M card with 500MB ram. Anyway if i can't get good FPS with 2 kinects with the older version, when i get the setup going, i might try recording on a desktop machine.
i appreciate all the help. plz let me know if u have any more ideas.
have a good weekend.
thx.

So you disabled the webcam, but maybe that 2nd USB controller is still reserved for a docking station. Is there a docking station that is compatible with your laptop? If you get one and plug it into your laptop, the USB ports on that docking station would likely be controlled by the 2nd USB controller.

no docking station pluged in. i am not sure if there's a docking station compatible, probably there is but i don't need it. when i do a properties on both usb controllers after disabling the webcam, it says "system reserved" 20%. there's nothing else in the list. it's very weird. all 3 usb ports are free, nothing connected. i doubt that the usb controllers are defective since they all detect 1 kinect only but not 2 at the same time.
