when I calibrate the skeleton to my motion using the fit character toggle, my feet jump up above the ground plane, is there a setting to plant the feet? |

The feet really should rest on the ground, especially if you have feet tracking enabled. After CJR is applied, the feet should stick firmly. If the feet are still floating after that, try scaling your actor up a little and then re-tracking. It could be that the actor's legs are too short for the capture volume and the volume is lifting the legs up. (I sometimes have the opposite issue when I capture myself because I think my legs are a little shorter than average and the virtual actor wants to bend the knees more than normal.) BTW, are you using single or dual Kinect? I think with single Kinect, feet stability can be little looser than what you get with dual. But even with single Kinect, it shouldn't really 'float' above the ground. Hope this helps. |

Forgive my ignorance but what is CJR? I am using one kinect right now to figure out the workflow but hope to incorporate another soon. The legs seemed to correct themselves over time, I also updated to the 2.0 build yesterday and that helped a lot. I had thought in the latest build that head and finger tracking were enabled but when I go to track those areas are still ignored. Thank you for the help. |

In the past when a user reported 'floating feet' it was often because the scene wasn't calibrated correctly. However, with single Kinect, the ground plane is automatically calibrated so at least that shouldn't be the problem for your captures. The next thing is to be sure you have a clean background which is used to isolate the performer's volume. I haven't captured with 2.0 yet but I believe the new wizard in 2.0 will make sure you get that. But since you've already captured in 2.0, I'm sure you already know that. Head and wrist tracking is scheduled for Q3, which probably means the very end of September. These schedules are often tentative and subject to change but iPi Soft is usually pretty good at hitting their marks. Keep your fingers crossed. :) FYI, fingers are not tracked in iPi DMC because the Kinect is way too low res for this level of motion capture when also recording full body. I imagine they could add fingers tracking is if the software allowed you to record and track record a separate 'hand/fingers-only' pass using Kinect in near mode, and then merge the hand/fingers animation to the body animation later. This is just my idle speculation--I don't know if anything like that is on their agenda. Currently, fingers can be manually posed by the user and probably animated in iPi DMC 2.0. (I haven't tried this myself yet.) IMO, if you want to animate the fingers, it may be easier to do this in the animation program you import the motion capture data to. I hope this is helpful. I also hope I can make time to use 2.0 soon but it's been so busy at work lately. Ugh! I'm missing out on the fun. :p Good luck! G. |

I just re-read the calendar and it sounds like fingers keyframing (manual, not tracking) is coming in Q3. So for now, it's best to do this in your animation program. Wouldn't it be wonderful if they added user definable pose library that could be used for setting key poses for hands and fingers? Hi, iPi Soft...can we have this next year? Maybe? Please? :) G. |

Coincidentally, here's a product I learned about about this morning: MyCap It seems to be specifically designed for hands and face capture, so it could be an ideal companion setup for iPi Desktop Motion Capture. It uses two webcams for capture. Here are some video demos: http://vimeo.com/41201849 I still own two of my old Logitech webcams that were used with iPi DMC years ago in its pre-PS3 Eye camera days.
