I am having difficulty bringing a character for retargeting from lightwave. I have followed RebelHills Videos. However when I try to import the DAE file into IPI v2.0.0.135 I get the following Error message <instance_visual_scene> tag not found (see Jpeg)

I have tried Lightwave 10, 11. But get the same error code on all the various files.

I've been retargeting my iPi data through Motion Builder and then transferring the motions to my Lightwave rigs using LIFS Merge Motions, so my experience with going directly from iPi Studio to Lightwave is a bit limited. I hope to look into this soon because they fixed a few things recently to make iPi more compatible with Lightwave rigs, and it was recently mentioned that they may even support .lws directly in a future build.

Anyway, I was wondering if you tried FBX yet? I often had trouble using DAE from Lightwave with other programs but in the past year or two, Lightwave FBX has been quite reliable with almost every program I've used it with. If you're using the latest iPi DMC, you might want to give FBX a try.

Thanks for the reply Dennis, I tried the direct fbx Route, and that seems to work well so far.

You missed out the convert dae to fbx step...

dae out of LW, convert to fbx with ad converter, bring to ipi, fbx back to lw.

Nope, I did that, I exported an FBX from Lightwave, I actually tried all the different FBX versions that lightwave can export, then used Autodesks fbx converter to change all those different versions to a DAE files. It is the DAE file that IPI is having trouble with. So I tried what Dennis suggested, and just used an FBX directly out of lightwave, I used the FBX201100 version, and took that straight into IPI, and that seems to work, I can then send an FBX back to lightwave and everything looks and seems to work fine to me. I am not sure if it is because I am using 2.0 that I am having trouble with the your tutorial steps. I really appreciate your tutorials on FBX, they have help a lot with this process.

Ah, ok... v2... Yeah, my initial tut was for v1 only, the new rotation order fixes in v2 make that procedure obsolete, and fbx<>fbx is the way to go.

Shoulda looked at your screenshot, lol.
