Hello, I have four PS Eye cameras. One of the cameras, which wasn't new when bought, has a few external differences from others and records the video in different color shades, but still does it at 60 fps. Could you tell me if it is fake or just a different model, and whether there can be any problems when using this camera?
Thanks.

This will definitely reduce the tracking quality. As will do any other cause of non-uniform actor's colors between the cameras, such as directional lighting.

Hello,

One of my ps eye cameras had the same problem. It seems it was missing an ir filter so the colors were a little bit different from other cameras. So I borrow a filter from another webcam and added it to the defective camera. As vmaslov told you , you'll get some weird results if you don't take care of this.

Cheers.

One of our cameras sees colors differently compared to other 5 as well. Until now, I've thought it is due to the light which is not as uniform as it should be. Is there an easy way to test if this filter is missing without taking the camera into pieces? All the cameras can "see" for example Kinect's IR transmitter shining very clearly. Thanks in advance.

Never mind. I used a regular remote which was easy to be held at close distance of each camera and it showed quite well that not only one but two of cameras might lack this filter. The strength of the visible IR was considerably milder in the four other cameras. No wonder we've had such tremendous troubles sometimes. This might also be one of the major reasons why I didn't see any clear improvement when I tested v2 last summer.

It seems this is a common problem. I recently bought another new camera. Externally it looks like those three cameras, but it turned out that it records in a way like the other one (different color shades). I did some experiments and found out that the lighting affects the way camera works. Problems arise with artificial light, especially incandescent bulb. There are no problems whatsoever with daylight or fluorescent light bulb.

Sure it depends on the lighting and what you wear. Fluorescent lamps emit less ir but I'm a little perplexed by the results you have with sunlight which has a great amount of ir light. Your clothes don't reflect ir the same way depending of their material. So you may use your ps eyes with clothes that absorb ir light but I think it's better to find a filter small enough to put in your cameras. I think I read the defective cameras had a special serial number. So you may be able to know if a camera will work with ipi mocap studio before you buy.

Probably a tulle that closes the window in the room has served as a filter.
Thanks for information.
