Post subject:  Connectivity setup questions

Hello,
I have brought a playstation move. My experiences are that:

I cannot tell much about the move because all that seems to happen is the red led below the sony branding flashes when you press the middle handle PS button, and eventually stops. When I plug it in, the led flashes again more slowly. Does that mean its charging?

About my PC.

I have two small bluetooth like addons to my PC, they are usb plug square devices the size of a coin, one is for bluetooth keyboard and one is to connect my PC to the wireless internet router. Are either of these suited to detecting the move? Do I need an SDK or something to get the move detected?

It would be great to have a link, or some advice about setting up the move and the required PC settings (Win 7).

Thanks
AaronC

Hi
Have you read the Getting started article in our wiki?
First, you need a Bluetooth adapter (not some wireless, but exactly Bluetooth).
The device for connecting with wireless router is a Wi-Fi dongle. If the keyboard is indeed a Bluetooth kind, then the device for connecting it is a Bluetooth adapter. But often wireless mice/keyboards are connected using not Bluetooth but vendor's proprietary radio technology. If after hitting the ADD NEW button in Recorder you just see Seeking of Bluetooth adapters message then you don't have a Bluetooth adapter or it is disabled.

Yes, looks fine. It supports Bluetooth v2.0, which is the version needed for PS Move.

Hi Vmaslov,I brought this device but am unable to pair it. Recorder asks me to connect and disconnect USB - no problems but then I'm left with the problem others face with being stuck pressing the PS button with no further progress..

Is there a known issue here or is it subjective in each case?

Cheers,
Aaron

So as far as I can tell, iPisoft does not support move controllers. This is disappointing. What do I do to make it connect?

iPi Recorder does support PS Move controllers, you can see many demos of people using this around the web.

The connectivity problems are often related to insuitable BT dongles. Obviously, we cannot test much dongle models, so cannot definitely answer whether specific BT dongle would work or not. We use ASUS USB-BT211 dongles, as well as built-in BT adapters of laptops at our disposal with no considerable issues.

If you have any 3d party BT software/drivers, please uninstall them before installing your BT dongle. You can also try using Motion in Joy BT drivers.

I'll keep trying, I've already tried those drivers and the associated process but with no luck.

Have you checked to see if there are newer drivers specifically for your BT dongle?

I'm not using the BT dongle you described but I've used an older model made by Kensington and the Asus USB-BT211 model suggested by iPi Soft. The Kensington model worked out of the box--I assume this used a native Microsoft driver since I never installed drivers for it--but when I switched to the Asus model, it failed to connect. The problem turned out to be the drivers.

To correct this, I had to download drivers specific to the Asus model from the Asus website. Asus suggests removing any existing BT drivers before proceeding. In my case, this step didn't seem to be necessary--after running the installer, the Asus dongle worked perfectly fine--much better, in fact, than my old BT dongle that I replaced.

I'm currently using the Asus BT device to successfully record from three PS Move controllers. The reason I replaced my old device was that I was experiencing latency issues after adding the third controller; the new Asus device appears to solve this problem.

If newer drivers for your BT dongle do not exist, try the Asus model. It's a fairly inexpensive device (about $12 - $13.)

Hope this helps.
