So I installed the software and it opens fine but once I try to open a video file it tells me "cannot open file" and System.OutOfMemoryException. The error message is in German since I'm running a German Vista version (32 bit) so I guess it's not really coming from the programm but it has something to do with whatever else it installed when I ran the setup (net framework?). Anyway it actually does put the video in the background but it doesn't let me set the background frames and the region of interest and when I try to track the movement it crashes.
I'm running Vista 32-bit with a GeForce 9400GT and a Core i7.

It is hard to tel what is causing this problem. Can you please post the following information to help us find the source of problem:

What codec you used for capturing video? Is it Xvid?

Can you play the problematic video using Microsoft Media Player?

How much video memory you have on you 9400 GT?

How much system memory you have?

I saw this message today and it happened when I loaded a .wmv file, so that might be the issue.

Let me try to answer some questions.

ii) I can normally play the problematic video using WMP;

iii) GTX 260, 896mb of video card memory. A detail: dx9 installed... is there any problem?

iv) 3gb of system memory.

- .NET Framework 1.1 and 1.1 Hotfix;
- .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and language pack;
- .NET Framework 3.0 SP2 and language pack;
- .NET Framework 3.5.

Well, i could read something about the way we record the movies (using, for examplo, xvid codec).
Is there anything related?

BTW - Michael - I'd suggest you create a 'sticky' thread that outlines the information required when reporting a bug. I notice a lot of folks don't even mention which version of the operating system they are running, how much RAM they have, how much VRAM in their video card, is anti-virus running, etc. - and this wastes their time and yours.

Thanks, I received your example, it is very useful for debugging.
It appears your video file is recorded with Windows Media Video 9 Professional codec, in such a way that frame-by-frame video navigation (seeking) is not possible. For example, Windows Media Player when on "Pause" cannot correctly display the frame you select using seek bar.

Video file recorded in this way is not suitable for processing in iPi Studio. You should re-compress this video using XVid codec or, better yet, simple MJPEG codec (for example, Microsoft's default MJPEG). You can use open-source VirtualDub to do re-compression. In the future, we recommend that you use iPi Recording with XVID or MJPEG codec to record your videos, because re-compression usually results in loss of quality. By the way, single-camera videos recorded using camcorders and consumer-class digital cameras usually use MJPEG or DV codec and that should also be OK for use with iPi Studio.

There is a related bug in iPi Studio. It should display a meaningful warning message after opening this file, instead of crashing. We are working on a fix.

On a side note, your video file is recorded with actual frame rate of 7.5 frames per second, actor is dressed in white T-shirt and movement is too complex for single-camera MoCap (there is walking, spinning around, side-bending etc). It is recommended that you use black T-shirt and a frame rate of 30 FPS minimum. For complex motions, we recommend using at least 3 cameras. Single-camera mode is only suitable for simple motions - actor standing and facing the camera.
