Post subject:  Camera colour differences causing tracking problems

Hi all. I just posted this in the "cameras" section of the forum then realised that the last post in there was 6 months ago, so thought I'd put it in here as well for visibility :)

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=8963

Basically out of my 6 PSEye cameras, 3 have good colour saturation and 3 are washed out. It's causing tracking problems as the software loses most of my upper body due to not seeing the red of my overshirt. Any ideas, or should I just randomly buy more PSEye's off ebay to get a set of colour-happy ones? :D

I had that problem too with 1 of my 6 cams. the only solution I had, was to buy another camera, so you have to buy 3 more cameras . sorry

We recommend that you try different camera options in iPi Recorder. If this is a software problem, you should see some changes in saturation when you turn off auto-exposure and play with saturation and other settings. If you do not see any changes, then this may be a hardware problem with certain cameras (and you may need to replace them).

It's definitely a hardware problem, as I detailed in the other thread I physically swapped two cameras and the problem moved with the camera. Cables, USB ports, software config all stayed the same.

I've read the guide which now says black shoes, blue jeans, and a long sleeve black top should work so I'll try that tomorrow as those colours might work even washed out. I was also using red and apparently that causes problems if the hand passes the chest - no wonder I struggled to get the arms folded with to old setup!

I'm also collecting more cameras via Ebay ;) I've won one already, let's hope it's not another washout one :D

So I've done the following:
1) Moved camera 2 to 1.4m high to give a better z-space spread in my cameras
2) Recalibrated after all the camera shenanigans
3) Dressed in black shoes, black long-sleeve shirt and blue jeans as recommended for multiple PS Eye cameras

The dodgy cameras show the black shirt as blue, which as it turns out is a known issue with them - some do it, some don't. But, setting my actor's colours up via a dodgy camera with the above changes has given me a very good capture. It did an entire "walk a bit and move arms" test with only one minor arm tracking hiccup that was fixed in one frame. Brilliant :D

The 'analyze appearance' has shown my shoes as a sort of light tan colour no matter what I tried, which I found odd (also, the droppers don't work for me, I just get the "no" mouse pointer everywhere on screen). Yet bizarrely, it's given me the best foot tracking I've ever seen o.O Bonus!

So I'll keep this style of dress (this even saves me looking like an idiot with red socks on) and hunt down replacement cameras, but at least I've got good capture abilities now even with the poor cameras involved. Thanks for your help :)

This is the bug we've found recently: the eye dropper tool does not work properly when one of the Move and IK tools is activated. Switching to the Select or Rotate tool "cures" the eye dropper. This bug will be fixed in the next update of Mocap Studio.
Nevertheless, thanks for reporting :)

Hah I wondered if it was a tool issue so I switched from IK to Move to check :D

I've just tested the PSMove hand tracking, fantastic, what a difference :D Also just noticed the hand/finger keyframing abilities as well. This software has come along so far, I'm going to enjoy this!

I have this issue with one of my 6 cameras. The one camera I have the issue with is back from when I first got a PS3 in 2007.

The other five I purchased specifically for iPi are great. I tested a friend's PSeye he got back around 2007 and it has the same issue my PSeye from 2007 does. I think there may have been a slight hardware change at some point in time.

The PSeyes from 2007 are washed out while the PSeyes from 2012 and 2013 are nice and saturated

Fixed in iPi Mocap Studio 2.6.0.161.
