Hi,

This is a very minor bug but it probably should be fixed because it may confuse users who aren't aware of what has happened. This bug affects the twin Kinect configuration; it may possibly affect PS3 Eye but I haven't tested that yet.

To reproduce this bug:

After you load your motion video and import your calibration Scene, slide your 'background video' region marker to another part of the timeline (forward a few seconds for example.) iPi Studio will reset the Kinect cameras to the default positions. This may not be immediately noticeable, but if you zoom away to look at your cameras you will see that they are now both aligned directly in front of the scene and on top of each other.

Of course correcting this error is easy: simply reload your calibration Scene file to move the cameras back to their calibrated positions.

I first noticed this problem when we made Happy Box but I didn't realize the cause until this morning. It's a very common issue in my workflow because my clean BG video usually doesn't start until I get out of frame, a few seconds after I press the Record button.

...

This doesn't happen when using PS Eyes, (4 anyway), that I am aware of, I always start tracking at different points early in the video, just to cut some early un needed to be

tracked frames without any issues.

But, thanks for bringing it to the attention of Kinects users that are experiencing it.

Hi,

Since I mentioned 'Happy Box' (2011) in the original post, this is probably a pretty old bug that existed back in version iPi Mocap Studio 2. I'm almost certain the issue has been since fixed for 3 and it probably got fixed in a later release of 2 as well.

Yow! Seeing this thread did remind me just how long ago we made that film.

I was so busy last year with freelance jobs that I did not have time for our own Little Green Dog productions. I stopped freelancing this year, so I'm actually going to be able to make time for our projects again, Hopefully this means we'll have more 'iPi MCS-created' short films coming out soon. :)
