Post subject:  Dual Kinect freezes when recording.

Hi!

I just bought a second Kinect for iPi but I have a problem when I try to record with two cameras. One camera works fine, but as soon as I select two cameras...

Image

It freezes on the next screen.

I assumed it just did that to be efficient and not show both cameras on as it would be a system-hog, but then I tried to record the background and it does this...

Image

Neither camera works at all. Both cameras work when just using that one, but as soon as I try to use two cameras at once neither want to work. Again I assumed it was just a cosmetic glitch and that the cameras themselves were working, but when I try to record I get this...

Which confirmed my fears. Something is going wrong when I attempt to use two computers.

I've searched for answers and the most common one is making sure they're not on the same USB controller. I have a relatively new computer and I've tried every single USB port pairing - I have 6 in the back and 2 in the front, so it took some time. Nothing fixes it.

Please help! D:

Indeed, the most common cause of such symptoms is that both Kinects are on the same USB controller.
If you insist that you have tried all possible combinations of USB ports then there should be some other reason.
However, let's check the picture in Device Manager. Connect one sensor to front USB port, and other to back USB port (usually front ports are connected to a different controller than the back ones). Open Device Manager, locate Kinect devices and see whether they have any problems reported. Then switch to 'Devices by connection' view, and again locate both Kinects by expanding the tree. See whether they are under the same USB controller node or different ones. Attach screenshots here, if you find it appropriate.
Also you can provide us a trace log from iPi Recorder. Open the program, wait for it to refresh the device list, then press tools > show trace in the top-right.

Recently, we've been reported of Kinect for XBOX malfunction on Windows 8.1 after one of the OS updates.

But from the screenshots it looks that your OS is Windows 7, that's right?

Hokay the problem is every single USB port uses the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller... But I have 2 other controllers. Here's a screenshot.

How do I use the other two USB controllers!?

I fixed it!

I uninstalled a USB controller driver that came with my motherboard because it turns out it was using every USB port as its own. When I uninstalled it it gave control of the USB ports back to the other two USB controllers - one for the front panel and one for the back.
