I don't know why this is happening but with the latest version of iPiSoft Mocap Studio (3.0.3.172), all the camera heights are negative values when calibrating, which means I have to manually edit the scene XML through notepad++ to make it a real number otherwise the rendered actor will be upside down when using it in an action project. Please see attached photo.

CPU: i5 2500k
GPU: R9 290
RAM: 8GB 2133Mhz RAM
Calibration video has been trimmed for accuracy

Is that the way you do your camera calibration?

That is probably the issue.

No need for all those floor touches and you should come off the floor with the light at least a couple feet min., not along it at any time.

See Wiki for a better calibration procedure.

Fair enough, I had no internet, didn't print a copy of it at the time and was going off "draw a box of sorts and mark the ground" from the top of my head.

Second question for you, What distance would you recommend the cameras be from the capture area if I'm doing a full circle setup?

That depends on several factors...

How big is the room/area ?m x ?m it's hard to tell in the darkened image. How many cameras? showing 4, is that all you are going to use? Looks like possibly 3m x 3m capture

volume by floor grid? Looks like your room space is adequate and cams I can see are at least 2m from edge of volume, those 2 look at a good height.

2m from the edge of the edge of the marked volume would be the minimum at chest height positioning.(at that distance though, you will possibly loose some upward travel

amount of arm extension or jumping). 3m is better if you have the space, but not more than 7m x 7m total area at the below heights, higher cameras can be moved in closer to

the actor center a bit to look more downward on actor.

1.5m to 2m off floor and one or two high cameras works well all around, depending on placement ability. (use a bit different height for each camera).

For smaller rooms, if you position cameras higher you will get more volume, and upward height capability, 1 camera should always be positioned higher (2.4m to 3m) and a bit

closer to actor for better foot contact/ankle position on floor tracking. If only 4 cams and all higher, you could possibly affect some aspects of the tracking, like

the shoulders or hip rotations.

I use a 4 camera set up, 2 facing the actor crossing view, (1.5m/1.85m), 1 behind the actor square with actor, (1.52m), and 1 high, (2.42m), and on the side of the actor a

bit closer to actor to just capture mostly mid-spine down for better foot/ankle position and hip rotation tracking.(works better for body to floor contact also).

My area is 7m long x 4m wide with 2.5m ceiling, capture volume of 2.5m x 2.5m or so.

Try different camera positioning to see what works best for what you want to achieve.

We also noticed this issue with negative heights in a couple of internal tests. It has been already fixed and will be released in the next update of Mocap Studio.

I don't know if this applied to your calculations, but if the calibration is run again at the same time, like if the auto-cam position box is unchecked and a re-run is tried,

it will give negative values also.

Wasn't stated whether you did that or not.

When only one calibration is run, it shouldn't, or I never had that issue, on a Win 7 machine.

When re-run a 3rd time, the values would re-adjust back to positive values, when I was testing different aspects of the program to see the effects.

Post if doing a better light tracking helped your issue, before an update is released.
