Hi, We are trying to build a structure with 6 Sony Eyes. And we are planning an area of 10x10m. Therefore we need USB Assets. But why? I mean, is a problem of data loss by the cable length? or that not enough power to the cameras? Depending could solve this in different ways, with different costs. If it is a problem of data loss we can buy a Signal Repeater but I have not found a low price model. If it is a problem of alimentation we can use a alimentation booster circuit that it's easy to build. Thanks |

Hi The problem with great length of USB connection is data loss depending on distance. So there is a need for repeater at every 10 meters approximately. That means you should use active USB cables for great lengths. Thaks for quick reply So... can we connect a 5m non active cable to a 10m Active clable? OPTION-1 : (PC -> 5m;nonActive -> 10m;active -> PSCamera) or OPTION-2 : (PC -> 10m;active -> 5m;nonActive -> PSCamera) |

I daisy-chain only active USB cables. For example: 10m active USB + 10m active USB + device (PS3 Eye or Kinect v1.) IMO, better safe than sorry. My understanding is that you can daisy-chain up to five of these cables. I typically chain two for each device, but longset I've ever daisy-chained is three 10m active USB cables which worked fine for me. FYI, if you use Kinect v2, you will need USB 3.0 active cables. BTW, that behind-the-scenes video is many years old. I would contact 1k0 and get a current opinion from him regarding the Canon cameras. G. |

We do not recommend to use passive USB extension cables of more than 3m total length. Often had problems with that. Passive cables usually have poorer quality. Always connect active cable to PC first. In your option 1, total length before repeater is 15m, so signal is too weak already. Greenlaw wrote: BTW, that behind-the-scenes video is many years old. This ir or mocap setup, as you can see we have 6 cameras in a hexagon (5m of radius), one camera per vertice. In the following image you can see 6 red lines that represents our USB cables 6 -> ( 2 x 11.0m ; 2 x 7.5m ; 2 x 2.8m ) aprox. The middle blue squere is our safe volumen.  With the previousimage wich tipe of cable do you recomend? becouse 7.5m of could be a problem if it's not a active USB, right? Thanks |

2x3m passive cables for 2.8m distances 2x10m active cables for 7.5m distances 2x12m active (preferred) or 2x10 active + 2x3m passive cables for 11m distances 7.5m passive would definitely be a problem. I recommend to place cables around the capture area (blue rectangle), not across it. |

I personally just use all 10m (33ft) USB 2.0 active repeaters for my 6 cams, (Cams have 6ft of lead also, which I don't use, just left wrapped up), no matter how close cams are to the computer, just coil up the excess and I have no transfer issues, to me less connections are better and all signals reach computer at same time, I don't know if that makes a difference, but I have no issues. I run mine permanent around the walls and ceiling of my area, so I did use most of the 10m anyway except for 1 @ 3m, rest coiled up. ... |

we have finally used: * 2x3m passive cables for 2.8m distances * 2x10m active cables for 7.5m distances * 2x10 active + 2x3m passive cables for 11m distances And works perfect! Thanks |
