After capturing video and creating project files, I have moved our files to a server to continue working from there. However, as I've been working with the project files, tracking, animating hands and whatnot, some of the project files have disappeared. Sometimes it happens after I have closed out of them, but a couple times it's happened even as I am using them. I'll get an error that the software can't find the project file, and when I look in the folder, the file is gone. I'm often left with a ".save_" file, but I can't figure out if or how I can recover from that. My only guess is that iPi Mocap Studio has some issue with the files being stored on a server, but we will fill up the computer's hard drive pretty quick if we just store everything locally. By the way, I am still using the same computer that captured the mocap to later track it - I'm just accessing the files off a server. Anyone know what might be causing this issue? Is there any way around it? Thanks in advance. |

Hi Let me share with you some tech details. Mocap Studio saves project in two phases specifically to reduce chances to lose the project data. First, a project is saved to a temporary file with the save_ extension. Second, existing project file is deleted and temporary file is renamed. So it looks like in your case there are problems with the last step - renaming. You can recover projects by manually renaming save_ files. We will study how the program works with network files. At the moment, I have one question: how do you access server files - via shared folder or network drive? |

Thanks for the quick reply. To answer your question, I'm accessing the files via a network drive. I could have sworn I tried renaming the a .save_ file to restore it, but I must have done something wrong because now it works. That's a relief. I think I may be on to something on what's causing the problem. If I am ever working on a project and I try to save when there are no new changes to save (or simply saving twice in a row), I get an error that says: "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process" Then, after I close out of the project, the next time I try and open it, I get: "Incorrect file format or other problem with project file: Access to the path 'Z:\...' is denied. Then, when I refresh my folder, the file is gone. But I have the .save_ file. So it seems like I can avoid my problem just by being careful not to save when there's nothing new to save. And if I do by accident, I know how to recover the file. But, of course, it would still be nice if there was some way to resolve the issue completely. |
