I have been trying to take advantage of connecting 2 kinect v2s to one single powerful PC to reap the benefits of reduced setup time and more.

It does work with both Kinect One v2s but only with a single USB extension up to 10ft (active or passive 10ft)

My goal is to extend one of my Kinects to a whopping 24ft (into another room).

I have tried connecting (daisy chain) a 10ft Active USB 3.0 with a 9.8ft Passive USB 3.0 with no detection. (computer->active cable->passive cable->camera)

I also tried connecting a 15ft USB 3.0 passive directly into the camera with some detection but it constantly disconnects and reconnects which led me to believe I needed 12ft and under.

I'm not sure what I need to buy to make the 24ft dream happen and need some help on what I need to buy. Is it even possible to extend a Kinect beyond 10-15ft?

Maybe it's because each 3.0 wire is a different brand?

Current Situation: $40 out of luck and not wanting to be another $40 out. What am I doing wrong? Is it because they are different brands of USB 3.0s? 10ft too long? Need a lesson on USBs / or direct buy links for a guaranteed solution. 10ft apart is not enough for both Kinect v2s recording.

It might have to do with the quality of the active cable.

For me, some active cables work great for Kinect over long distance while others have been absolute junk. Be sure to go through user reviews to determine a cable's reliability. If the cables you have turn out to have a history of poor performance, send them back.

I'd have to check what brand/model I'm using at home. I think I'm using Monoprice cables but can't swear to it yet. Will post again when I know for sure.

Oh, it could also depend on the USB's port's power output. Some USB ports don't output much power at all so make sure the port has adequate power.

If that's the problem, some cables let you attach an external power supply.

I'm starting to think that power output could be playing a part in it too (but also quality of cables as well) since the 10ft active cable I bought from 10ft (Active) CableMatters/SayTayY is dropping 1.9 frames compared to my 9.8ft (Passive) AmazonBasics extension cable.

I actually bought a 32 Foot USB 3.0 Active Extension Cable with AC Power Adapter a couple days ago only to return it after finding out it wasn't compatible with Kinect One. No detection (as expected from something not compatible and lost out a bit on returning it.)

I'm kind of hoping someone already has the cables to test with so I don't have to dive into the darkness.

I'm also struggling to find a USB 3.0 extension cable that allows an AC Power Adapter that is compatible with a Kinect v2. I keep running into comments like the one below.

...and the additional issue is its only 16.5ft and id have to plug it into another passive or active cable. lol~


Editx: Turns out I bought a wire that can replace the original 5ft wire Cable Matters USB 3.0 Cable (USB 3 Cable/USB 3.0 A to B Cable) in Blue 15 Feet ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00821FO5U/ ) that's directly connected to the Kinect. It manages to pop out 30fps fully stable at 15ft but still my passive 9.8 ft AmazonBasics + active 10 ft Tay USB 3.0 wires are not detected at all. Although- if I think about it... the original wire is 5ft and the extensions are 10ft so that equals 15ft for both... so its exactly the same length.



Shots in the darkness:
1) Maybe: Buy an extension that can push a connection out (AC ADAPTER) (some have reported that it still drops frames)
2) Unlikely: Buy a wire that can directly plug into the kinect (25ft + another smaller 5ft extension https://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-SuperSpeed-Repeater-U328-025/dp/B00IOXVWL6/


Maybe It's just not possible to extend past 10-15ft.

The active 10ft wire does NOT extend it past 25ft (but might replace AmazonBasics) Edit: Active does work but has upwards of 0.3 - 1.6 frame drops compared to 0.0-0.5 frame drops on AmazonBasics
Edit: 100% extends to where I need it to go!!! done with wire buying! woooo!

Actually, this make me wonder if the ExpressCard I got a couple of months ago for my laptop just needs a boost in power to run a second Kinect 2 at full speed. There is a socket next to the USB port for a power adapter; just hadn't thought to try powering it externally. Will have to give it a shot this week.
