What is the expected frame rate of 6 Ps3 cameras connected to one computer?

Does my laptop meet the requirements?
https://tinyurl.com/2s4xm8a7 [newegg] where I bought mine.

Does tight fitting clothing such as spandex work better than normal clothing such as T-shirts and blue jeans?

Can a ps3 eye capture looking straight down on the actor? The idea being is that one camera would be on the ceiling.

Would photography backdrops such as the one here https://tinyurl.com/48fjwy4c [amazon] help with tracking?

Does action cameras provide better quality then using ps3 cameras?

The frame rate depends on USB controllers present in a PC. Looking at specs it seems that your laptop likely has an additional USB v3 controller. So there's a good chance that 6 cameras can stream at 60 fps provided you connect them as 2x per each USB port.

The actor model in Mocap Studio resembles a normal fitting clothing, so there is no advantage in wearing tight clothes. The main thing is that clothing colors are solid.

You can position RGB cameras any way as soon as they have a good intersection of their fields of view. Actually having a camera looking down can be beneficial for certain motions like crawling.

The main requirements for background are
  • A reasonable contrast with actor clothes
  • No moving objects
If you can get this without backdrops then you're fine.

Action cameras can provide better accuracy of tracking fast motions due to higher FPS. Otherwise, the choice between two options comes down to convenience/cost or what you've already got in your hands. Action cams workflow is easier in set up and recording at the expense of more complex processing. You have to merge and sync individual recordings as a separate step, and usually remove distortions in wide FoV videos.

Thank you for the reply,

I have noticed a bug when connecting the ps3 eyes where it will say that more than 2 cameras has been added to one usb when I am using different usbs.

If I click record and change the settings of the camera though the recording program it will run. Sometimes frame rates will be stable at 60fps and other times it will give me 5-9 frames.

The program simply detects if more than 2 cameras are connected to the same USB controller as reported by Windows. I guess that USB v2 and one of USB v3 ports go to the same USB controller. This doesn't prevent recording but some issues may arise. Hence the warning.

Which settings affect the frame rate?
Does the frame rate change so drastically with the same settings? Then probably you have spikes in CPU/disk usage caused by other software during recording.

It's the video mode setting and I don't run other programs at the same time as I'm recording.

What do you think of these cameras?
https://tinyurl.com/byfnppjb I found them relatively cheap compared to gopro's insane $300 price tag.

Should be good with 720p at 120 fps as long as they provide decent image quality.
You can read some general notes about action cams in our docs
