I purchased iPi Mocap a few years ago and have been able to successfully capture animations using my two Kinect V2 cameras. For the first time I am running into an issue.

I am trying to record a sword animation from a very specific stance (I can't use anything premade). The setup does not capture the orientation of my hand so the sword isn't positioned properly.

I read that you can use a motion controller to capture the hand orientation. So I tried using a PS Move controller. I was able to get it connected and apparently working in iPi Recorder, but it did not seem to have any effect. The angle of the sword was still wrong.

I tried using the Switch Joy-Cons, I could not get them to pair with my PC. And then I tried an old Wiimote, but ran into bluetooth issues.

What is the best way to record the correct orientation of the sword?

I was messing around trying other animations and they seemed to work fine so I think my Kinect setup is ok:

Hello virtualdestructor,

Thank you for your question and sharing this great pics. Sorry for the silly question, but did you follow this guide? There are two the most important things:
  • first, to align motion controller(s) with 3D scene orientation (in horizontal plane)
  • then, to apply motion controller(s) data to appropriate body part (right hand, in your case)
