Just setting up 4 PS3 eye cameras, I'm hoping once their in position and calibrated we can leave them in situ. Can I mount them to the ceiling or should they be mounted to stands? gav |

That's basically what I do, but I capture a new calibration video at the beginning of each 'day' of shooting just in case the cameras got bumped or moved. Shooting a calibration video only takes about two minutes, which is well worth the time. It's a horrible feeling when you spend hours on a shoot only to learn that your old calbration file is no longer valid and you don't have a new calibration video to track. If you mod the cameras the way I did (Helicoil kit,) you can mount them onto tripods, low cost light-stands, security camera mounts, or anything with a compatible quarter inch thread. A while back I made ceiling and wall mounts using parts from the local hardware store and some knuckles (gimbal joints) I bought from eBay. (These knuckles are identical to the ones that come with a Stickypod camera mount for cars, but cost about a third of the price.) If you suspend your cameas from the ceiling, you can hang pvc pipes from the rafters, but you will need to add a C bracket on the end to flip the camera orientation. FYI, while I have all the parts assembled for this, I haven't actually mounted the cameras permanently yet. I would recommend using moveable stands until you are certain where you want to permanently fix your camera. (I'm still deciding if I really want to permanently fix mine.) G. |
