Hi! I am completely new to motion capture. I've never worked with any kind of motion capture software in my life, but I saw IPIsofts sofware for sale and thought I'd give it a try. Can anyone give me a run-down, step by step process of what I have to do to make a motion capture file that i could turn around and apply to a poser figure? (I will be working with the demo download, a laptop, and one Kinect camera) |

Hi I use Poser for Ipi too. I dont use kinect but you should find the video tutorials section of the forum. If you export a poser figure bvh from poser, make sure you disable all IKs first so that it will work in Ipi. Your laptop should have a USB 2.0 port so that you will not have alot of dropped frames. (I am not sure if this also applies with Kinect). |

I think data from a single Kinect is smaller than data from multiple PSP Eye cameras, but it still requires a bit of bandwidth. The laptop I use for this is pretty old but I think the main thing is to record directly to a very fast drive. What I use is an eSATA Expresscard and a small eSATA RAID I assembled a few years go. This works fine for me but if you have a newer laptop and you run into dropped frames, you might consider adding an internal SSD or if you can add an Expresscard you could use an external SSD, USB 3.0 or eSATA GB drive to record to. I read some time ago that it's possible to use a single SSD for your OS, programs, and Recorder data, but this may require a larger SSD which might get expensive. I haven't checked on this recently, so make sure you research more current info before buying. G. |
