I'm testing out the kinect based system just now.

What causes jitter, and is there a way of minimising it at the recording stage?

I believe it's a resolution issue. the Kinect's resolution is somewhat low, which makes the random noise that appears from frame to frame even more apparent. I don't think you can do much about this, but FWIW, you will seen some jitter even in the 'raw' tracking pass from multiple PS3 Eye cameras, just not as much as with Kinect.

That said, iPi Studio's Configurable Jitter Removal system works very well in eliminating the jitters while preserving the integrity of the original performance. Just be careful not to use too much; this can cause motions to look 'robotic'. (Which is fine if that's what you want of course.)

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I use the setting 1 for jitter removal.

If you set it to high it can look even more jittery, especially on fast moving motions like drums.

Now my motions are smooth as melted butter.

Thanks for the advice, guys.
I'm going to set up a 4 cam system asap, but the kinect is a great option, and allowed me to see right away if the system was for me ( which it most definitely is. )

Does room lighting matter with the kinect?

No. The kinect generates it's own infrared red light.
