Are you talking about the process for capturing motion data? For that you need multiple PS3 Eye cameras or a Kinect, and a PC running the iPi Recorder software. The result is a video file from which you can reconstruct human motion. With PS3 Eye, you'll see the action from multiple angles and with Kinect you get only one angle but with depth information. In general, if you want to capture complicated motions, use PS3 Eye; if you want something fast and easy to use, go for the Kinect. Each system has its own advantages and disadvantages, and the one you choose depends on what you need to capture and how much effort you're willing to put into a session. To process the video data into a usable 'mocap' file, you track it using iPi Studio. Retargeting the data to a character rig can be done in iPi Studio or another application like Animeeple or Motion Builder. Some 3D applications can use the motion data directly (usually via .bvh) but you may have limited retargeting options. That's it in a nutshell. You can learn about the full process by reading the iPi Wiki. There's also a ton of helpful tips from iPi users in these forums. Good luck! G. |
