Hi, I'm trying to get my two kinects running, but as per the FAQ/Help files I see that I need multiple usb controllers.

I have 5 usb ports and in my (2011) mac pro's device manager it appears to have plenty. I'm running parallels and windows 7, but for whatever reason parallels will only share enough usb bandwidth or controllers to run 1 kinect. When I plug in the second, I get the familiar error/driver problem with the second.

This looks like a fairly common problem, common enough that it's well documented. What's the best workaround for someone dual-booting from a mac pro?

Should I bother installing boot camp rather than parallels?

Yes.

All virtual machines (including Parallels) are not fully compatible with modern video card drivers, and our software relies heavily on GPU-based computations.

Therefore Boot Camp is always recommended over a virtual machine.

Most of modern PCs, including 2011 MacPro, have two USB controllers integrated in chipset. That should be enough for running two Kinects. (Unless one of the controllers is occupied by some built-in device like a built-in video camera).

I'm going to switchover to PS Eye setup sometime soon.

I'd like to know how many usb controllers I will need to capture at 60 fps with 4 - 6 ps eye?

Typically one USB 2.0 controller can support up to two PS3 Eye cameras. To add cameras you need additional controllers, one for every two. As mentioned above, most modern computers already have two but depending on your computer's configuration, one controller may be partially in use by another device.

Just wondering but does anybody know if a USB 3.0 controller can support more PS3 Eye cameras? It seems like it should but I'm guessing the answer is probably 'no' because the cameras are USB 2.0 devices. Maybe iPi Soft can shed some light on this?

Thanks in advance for any info!

Hello, we have found more or less the same problem. We are using the ipi recorder (v2.0.0.14), and working with a mac pro early 2008, running windows 7 64bits with BootCamps. We haven't managed to set two kinects, as when the second is connected, the ipi Recorder says: "The USB connector to which the Kinect sensor is attached, does not have sufficient bandwitdh. Or two Kinects are using one and the same USB". We have connected them with different configuration (both on the frontside USBs, both on the backside USBs, and also one back and the other frontside), but the message remains the same. Is there any possible solution for this? Any suggestion?

Thank you!

We have an evidence from one of users that they were using 8 PS Eye cameras at 50 fps. And 4 of them were connected using one 4-port USB 3.0 extension card.

Have you tried all possible combinations of USB ports? Or just tried two ports on the front and two ports on the back?
If there is a technical possibility in Mac Pro to install extension card with additional USB controller, you can go this way.

That's fantastic!

I have two USB 3.0 cards in my computer. I always assumed it was only the addition of the SSD that allowed me to use six cameras but now I believe the USB 3.0 cards are also making this possible on this computer.

Thanks for the information.

I have 2 usb controller in my computer but all the USB port seem to use only one controller, therefore there is not enough bandwidth to use two kinects. How can i set one of the USB port to the other controller?
