Hello I am a Post Graduate student, I was thinking of purchasing this tool for my study, I wanted to know a little more about the kinect setup.

Could the kinect set-up record at 320 x 240, if so what's the difference in quality in comparison to 640x480 and does it have a big difference on the file size while shooting at lower resolution.

Also when using a dual kinect set-up, how much does the file size increase (does it become double?)

thanks for all the help,

soheeb

Hi

Current version of Recorder can record Kinect (and Xtion) video only in 640x480 (VGA). Version 2 (scheduled to release in May) will have support for 320x240 mode (QVGA). For now, color image from depth sensors is not used for motion tracking. And effective resolution of depth image is limited, so there is no much difference between VGA and QVGA modes in terms of tracking quality.
File sizes for QVGA resolution generally are 4 times smaller than for VGA resolution. And so is required USB bandwidth (you may opt to lower resolution if you are experiencing USB issues).
Yes, you are right. For dual Kinect setup file size doubles.
Also note that iPi Recorder 2 will use proprietary record format (not AVI) which significantly reduces sizes of produced record files.
