Hello

I`m very new to this software. I want to ask. If I buy xbox kinect, is it going to work with motion capture? I mean, whats the differences between the xbox kinect and windows kinect? I`m really into this software.

Sorry if this question was already answered but I couldnt find the answer.

Hello
Both Kinect devices are supported by our software. You can find short comparison in our wiki.
However, several users reported that they are experiencing "false power off" issue when using Kinect for XBOX with latest version of our software (due to Kinect SDK 1.5 driver).

For the time being, there really isn't a lot of difference between the two. Here are the key differences:

Kinect for XBox is cheaper and works fine with iPi DMC. Kinect for Windows has a few advanced features that may be supported by iPi in the future--however, nothing has been officially announced yet.

If you buy the Windows version, it might pay off in the future for closeup capture like for hand/fingers or face, probably through another party's Kinect compatible software, but of course by then something better might be available. A few user have reported that they are getting cleaner capture data with Kinect for Window. I can't confirm this myself because I only have Kinect for XBox here.

One more thing: for Windows based computers, Microsoft only supports Kinect for Windows. This doesn't actually mean much for now but it may be important in the future.

Either way, I don't think you can go wrong. IMO, if you're looking to save money, I'd go for the XBox version and use the extra money for other necessary gear like repeater cables, SSD, USB cards, etc. These devices won't do much good if your equipment is too underpowered to capture data from them. And if you have the extra money to spend, then go for the Windows version.

Hope this helps.

G.
