I use inexpensive light stands from Cowboy Studios. These are sturdy tripods that do not have panning heads, only a screw mount--they're designed to support lightweight studio lights. (When I bought my stands they cost about $12 but it looks like the price just went up to $18. Still a good price compared to sturdy camera tripods.)
To mount the PS3 cameras to the light stands, you need to tap the base using a Helicoil kit. This kit is designed to rethread worn or damaged threads in the base of conventional cameras and it's perfect for adding a screw mount to the PS3 camera. You can buy this kit for about $15 - $20 and it's good for up to 12 cameras.
In addition to the kit, you will need is a table vise and hand drill. Drilling is easy because the camera's metal base already has a hole in it under the sticker. Use a hard metal drilling bit to widen the hole so that it can be tapped with the Helicoil kit.
After inserting the thread, you may want to trim the part that sticks out because it can affect camera stablity. I just clip it with wire cutters and file it down. After this, the camera mounts very firmly to the light stands.
The lights stands to not have a panning head but it's not really necessary because the PS3 cameras can swivel and tilt on its own base.
It takes a little work but it's well worth the effort.

Hope this helps.
