| Post subject: | 6 PS3Eye Cameras and USB Controllers |
The company I am currently working for is very interested in buying the system, but we are confused with the hardware installation. Suppose we have 6 PS3Eye cameras and a quad-core PC with 2 high speed USB controllers on board. I read that we can only connect 2 cameras to 1 USB controller. - Do we have to add another USB 3.0 controller? - To connect 6 cameras to 3 USB controllers, do we have to purchase 3 USB hubs? It is better if you upload video tutorial about minimum hardware requirements for 6 PS3Eye cameras and how to connect them to the PC properly. |

I read the documentation, but I am not sure about the hardware requirements for 6 PS3Eye cameras setup. For 6 PS3Eye cameras setup: 1. Is below PC specification enough? - 1 PC. - Intel Core i7. - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460. - 4GB DDR3 memory. - 3 high speed USB controller. - 1 iPi Desktop Motion Capture Standard Edition software installed. 2. I read that we can only connect 2 cameras to 1 USB controller. So to connect them, do I need 3 USB hubs for 6 cameras? |

Hi, liquify The specs you've provided seem quite OK both for recording and for processing videos. 2 cams per controller is general rule for USB 2 controllers. We have several evidences that up to 4 cams can be connected to a single USB 3 controller - though, maybe just certain controller models. Anyway, it's always a field for testing to determine the right combination of USB ports providing the maximum number of working cameras. If you have enough USB ports (at least 2 per controllers) than you do not need any USB hubs. But most probably you will need some active USB extension cables (they have a box on one end) to connect cameras that are more than 5 meters away from the PC. |

Hi vmaslov, Can I get 60 fps or higher frame rate with the PC specification (Intel Core i7 & GTX 460) for 6 PS3Eye cameras setup, or do I have to purchase a quad core processor? |

Is not your CPU quad-core already? Most of Core i7 models have 4 or 6 cores. Besides CPU power, the disk writing speed has a big impact on possibility to record at big FPS values. Sure SSD is a great help, but in most cases you can successfully go with regular modern SATA3 HDD. By applying different compression options for recording, you can reach the balance between CPU and disk load that is appropriate for your PC. PS. PS Eyes cannot get higher than 60fps. |
