I already ordered 2 Kinects (Which I don't know if it was a good choice since people seem to like PS3 Eye cameras more?) and on top of that I already have 1 DSLR camera capable of shooting 1280x720@60fps.

How good results I'm going to get with this setup and how much tweaking must be done to make the animation look good?

Hi

People prefer PS Eye mainly in scenarios where a big capture area is needed. With Kinects the maximum area is about 2x2 meters, with PS Eyes - up to 7x7 meters.
The accuracy of 2 Kinects and 4 PS Eyes is about the same. And in many situations Kinects may be preferrable due to easier setup and calibration.

DSLR has no use with our software, because it only supports streaming video sources. Also note, that higher resolution has practically no impact on accuracy of full body motion tracking, but significantly increases the amount of data to be recorded.

The amount of cleanup needed depends on the complexity of actor's motions. In many cases it may not be required at all. Our software has built-in post-processing tools, including jitter removal and trajectory filtering, which significantly improve the resulting animation look.

OK, now let the users say something :)

Ah ok, I just remembered that you could import .avi files a long time ago...
Guess I'll be fine with 2 Kinects then, don't have a lot of room to capture in anyways.

If you don't have a lot of space then, yes, dual Kinect is the way to go. We have both systems but I prefer using the Kinect system for our projects mainly for the convenience and ease of use. Results are quite good considering the cost of the system, and iPi Soft keeps improving it all the time.

We've kept our PS3 Eye system around just in case we need to capture larger scale action or something especially complicated, but so far we've only ever needed dual Kinect in our current production (our second movie to use iPi DMC,) and that will probably be true in our next one too.

By the way, if you're choosing between Kinect for XBox or Kinect for Windows, there is apparently no difference where iPi DMC is concerned, at least in the current release. This may change in the future but for now it's much cheaper to go with the XBox version. FYI, we use the XBox version with iPi DMC 2.0. Recently we added a Windows version of Kinect to our pipeline to use its 'Near Mode' for face capture in another program, but we've been informed that at present there is no extra benefit to using this version of the device with iPi DMC.

Hope this helps.
