Post subject:  Additional markers for motion capture

Wiki does not say what kind of equipment should be selected as the primary.

True or False: additional motion controllers (playstation move) can be used only in the case of the following equipment:
  • Sony PS Eye
  • Ms Kinect
  • Asus Xtion Pro Live

True or False: additional motion controllers (playstation move) can not be used in the case of the following equipment:
  • Asus Xtion Pro

As I understand it, playstation move uses to determine its position in space magnetometer and accelerometer. And the source of light, which is detected by the camera. If there is no camera (as in the case of the Asus Xtion Pro or if the controller is outside the field of the camera) will the playstation move only work on the basis of data received from the accelerometer and magnetometer?

PS Move can be used with any supported cameras/depth sensors.
We do not track PS Move's position, only its orientation, so there is no need for it to be visible in camera.

theoretically, if I reproduce the format of data transmission protocol, I can use as a sensor device based on Arduino, right?

If you can fully mimic PS Move or Wii Remote behaviour, including vendor and product IDs for devices - maybe your device will work without changes in our software. But it will be more bulky then the original sensor and thus less usable for mocap.
Talking of convenience, we look in the direction of using modern smartphones as orientation sensors. We are going to research this area in this year.

That's cool. I don't personally have a smart phone but I do have an iPod Touch with is essentially the iPhone without the phone--this device would certainly be easier to fix to my head than a Move device. :)

bulky?
sensor module, bluetooth module and a microcontroller in the form factor tqfp32, properly chosen battery will take place 20-30 times smaller than the playstation move.

Maybe I'm wrong, did not thoroughly on Arduino solutions in terms of dimensions. Just looks bulky on the pictures :)
You are free to experiment. It would be great if you share your progress.

the standard version of Arduino is quite large in size, but it can be placed anywhere on the body, for example on a belt.
however there are smaller options such Arduino Nano. (this is blank board for Arduino Nano lying on my hands)

Moreover, there is nothing stopping to take a microcontroller without binding, only the firmware Arduino.

I have already bought and tested PS Move, say that they are bulky - it does not say anything. They are very large!
The use of smartphones ... Impractical idea in my opinion.

You need something like this: Cyber-gloves

Our goal is to provide the mocap solution utilizing only off-the-shelf equipment. So the wide range of users without engineering skills can just go to local/internet shop, buy needed items and do mocap. So we are looking for ways to use the devices that are widely available, such as smartphones.

I agree.

I want the solution to be at its best don't get me wrong but at the same time what drew me to Ipi was the fact that it was all so attainable. I think Ipi should always feel like a complete novice could potentially get set up in a day by visiting a few shops.

If we could find a smaller device which does what the move does, is readily available and has a good plug in and play mentality to it then we should defiantly be using it

But that's just me.
