Try different port combinations.
Each Kinect should reside on the separate USB controller.

What PC do you have - desktop or laptop?

Its a Asus Dual Core 2.6ghz Laptop. I have tried the cameras in different ports (it has 4.) and they all work when plugged in solo.
When I click tools>device manager and look in there both cameras come up but one has an error>cannot load etc. Both cameras work on there own?

Thanks for your help

So have you tried to plug one Kinect, and then plug the second Kinect in every of the remaining 3 ports to check wheher it works in some of them?
Do you have USB 3.0 ports or all 4 are USB 2.0?

Then there is a chance that all 4 USB ports are mapped to a single USB controller.
If your laptop has an ExpressCard slot, you may install an ExpressCard USB adapter. If not, maybe your only option to make dual Kinects working is to get another laptop :(

Unfortunately, USB hub does not add another USB controller, just more ports.

fairly sure it has two conrollers as in the device management>USB> It comes up with two USB general buses when two cameras are connected one on 002 and one on 003
the device manager also says that prime sensor has an error with one of the kinect cameras. it says type code 10

UPDATE.

You could be right though, I have been reading that most laptops are single bus. Have you found this yourself? Perhaps I need to hire one in.
Incidently is there a workflow to using two laptops to track same shot?

Are you using Psdrv3 driver for Kinect? If your OS is Windows 7 or 8, please use KinectSDK instead.

Our software does not support multiple PC recording scenarios.
