| Post subject: | Looking to jump in - Mac bootcamp questions |
Hi gang, Love what I've seen of IPI and I'm looking to start using it. However, I am Mac based and I had a few questions. I'm weighting my option to purchase a dedicated PC for IPI, but I'd like to think my Mac Pro can handle it? My questions: I have a Mac Pro (5,1) 2010 running 2x 6-core 2.93gHz. My video card is the ATI Radeon HD 5870. I have internal HD raid, but not sure if bootcamp will see that. Is this a suitable system for a 1, or 2 Kinect setup? I do own windows XP, but it looks like IPI might run more smoothly with a more recent version. Windows 7, or 8? OR, would it be best to just purchase a beefy PC laptop? Thanks in advance for the feedback! |

Your Mac Pro is quite adequate both for recording with 1/2 Kinects and for processing. I'm not sure whether BootCamp works with internal RAID - you'd better address this question to Apple forums/support. You may only need a Windows laptop if you plan to make "portable" recordings somewhere away from your Mac Pro. Before purchasing, it is good to test whether 2 Kinects are seen in iPi Recorder on this laptop when plugged in some combination of USB ports. Because some laptop models can only handle a single Kinect properly due to USB limitations. For processing, desktop graphics is always far better in performance than mobile, so you'd better rely on your Mac Pro. |
