From the sound of it im going to be getting a few PS eye cameras, but being completely new to this I'm wondering if I need the PS3's to run them on, or can I just utilize the camera and feed the signal directly to the computer? Stupid question probably, but I did issue a newbie alert.

You don't need PS3, PS Eye cameras are connected directly to PC.
