Post subject:  How to position my PS Eye Cameras?

Hey Guys,
after I wanted to get better animation results, I switched from one kinect camera to 4 Ps Eye cameras. I am willing to buy 2 more cameras, but I want to get these 4 to work first. I made a few photos and a sketch of the room I am using. I hope you can suggest how I should position my cameras, to get the best results.

Here are the photos:

And the sketch:

(You should probably click on the image to see what it's showing)

So how should I position my cameras? Is it better to use full-circle or half-circle?
The low tripods are about 1.12 meters (3.67 feet) high and the high one is about 2.18m (7.15 feet) high. Is that enough?

I hope you can answer my questions.
Greetings,
Tobi

Hi
The way you've placed the cameras on photos seems pretty well to me. This will provide the good overview of an actor and a big capture area.
A couple of notes on environment.
You should get longer cables so they do not lie in the middle of the capture area.
If you consider to do capture with natural lighting coming from windows (the thought is inspired by wires on the ceiling where the lamps should be) - it's not a good idea. Because this lighting is highly directional and the same color will look different in different cameras / point of views. This will cause much trouble for tracking with PS Eyes.

Thanks for your answer.
I've already thought of the light. The problem is, that I do not own that room. I am just allowed to use it, so i can't attach lights to the ceiling. Any suggestion what to use as an alternative light source?

I'm glad that my cameras are high enough to use them, because I have no clue how to get them higher :D
Anyways, I will give it a shot and see how it works.

Just a thought, not recommendation (as I do not have relevant experience). You could experiment with LED strips - they are relatively inexpensive and allow to cover the ceiling uniformly. However, I do not know how much (meters) of them is needed to get a sufficient illumination of your room.

I recently made my first calibration and recording tests and it didn't worked out very well.
I think the auto calibration was pretty good, because the cameras are all at the right place, even though the ground plane seems pretty random.

But then again, the tracking results were pretty miserable:

So why are my results so bad? Is it already too dark? If you want to test it yourself with my videos, I am willing to upload them to your favourite filehoster.

It seems that you've forgotten to adjust the model's colors to match the actor. Carefully read through this section in the User's guide:

You can use your favorite service. It makes sense to zip/rar iPiVideo and iPiMocap files before uploading, their size can be greatly reduced.
