Hey, I consider to buy the ipisoft software for a series of animation films. But I got into trouble with my 2 kinects. I bought an extra pcie usb 3.0 controller as the wiki recommends, allthough I should already have 2 on my mainboard (I am not using a Laptop). But when I connect a kinect to my usb a controller the ipi recorder always tells me that the kinect is not powered up, but that can't be true, because it definetely is powered up, and my power supply is not broken. What can I do about that? The kinect works perfectly with other usb ports, but allthough I should have 2 usb controllers on my mainboard (I can see them in the device manager!) I can't use 2 kinects with my pc. What am I doing wrong?

Hey, I considered buying the ipisoft studio, and wanted to try it out with 2 kinects. Sadly, it didn't work. I bought an extra pcie usb 3.0 controller as the wiki recommends, allthough I already should have 2 (I can see them in the device manager). But no matter how I try it, I can't get it to work. The Ipi soft recorder always tells me that my kinect has insufficient bandwith or isn't powered up. My power supply is definetely working, and I can get a single kinect to work on my pc, but not on the extra usb controller. How is that possible and what can I do about it?

Hi Have you tried all possible combinations of USB ports to get working on built-in USB controllers? What is the model (or used chipset) of your PCIe USB 3.0 card? Do you use any USB extension cables?

Yes, I tried all possible combinations, with and without active usb extension cables. The chipset is the VIA VL800/801. By the way, I'm sorry for doubleposting, I totally overread that a thread has to be accepted by a moderator.

Please confirm my understanding of your situation: Each of 2 Kinects works properly when connected single to built-in USB port. When connecting both Kinects to any combination of built-in USB ports, one of them does not work. The message is either "insufficient bandwidth" or "not powered up". When connecting any of Kinects to PCIe USB card, it does not work. The message is "not powered up". Is that right? What's your OS? What drivers for Kinect do you use - Kinect SDK or PrimeSense? If Kinect SDK, which version? Trace log from iPi Recorder, taken while Kinect does not work, may help. To get it, click menu "tools > show trace" at the top-right. Please also attach the screenshot of Device Manager with "USB controllers" node expanded.

Yes, both kinects work properly when connected single to built-in USB. However, one of them need few secs more before it shows up on the recorder, but I don't know if that matters. When connecting both kinects to built-in USB ports, there are several possibilities. As I tested it today, the recorder shows both of the kinects as ready, but in setup mode, they are either frozen (640x480 depth+picture), show a blackscreen, or will crash after a random period of time (640x480 depth only). Insufficient bandwith or not powered up wasn't shown today, I may have remembered it wrong. When connecting any kinect to PCIe USB card, it does not work. The message is either "not powered up", or "insufficient bandwith", or it doesn't even show up in the recorder. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I am using the official Microsoft Kinect drivers. (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/kinectforwindowsdev/start.aspx) I'm sorry that it is in german, but I think I can't change that. I made two traces. Thanks for the provided info. I see you have Intel chipset of 8x family, which has 2 built-in USB 2.0 controllers and 1 built-in USB 3.0 controller. Does the behavior differ when you plug the second Kinect in USB 2.0 port or built-in USB 3.0 port? Unfortunately, we had not chance to test the Intel controllers of this family, but usually Intel USB controllers demonstrate the best compatibility with devices. Regarding PCIe card, I see a warning icon at the VIA USB 2.0 hub device, which may explain why Kinects do not work with this card. What does Device Manager say as the reason for this icon?

No, the behavior does not differ when I connect one kinect to built in USB 3.0 and one to built in USB 2.0. But when I connect both kinects to built in usb, and select them in the recorder, then change the resolution to depth only, then switch to player and then switch back to the recorder, both kinects are working properly, but are freezing after some time. I installed another driver for the pcie card, to see if that changes something, but it didn't. The device manager marked it with a warning icon because of "problems". After deinstalling the experimental driver it disappeared, but I still can't use the pcie card. Same problems as before.

Sorry for a delay, I've taken some time to allow new ideas visit me... but out of luck :( Currently, I have no other advice for you than to get another PCIe card based on different USB 3.0 chipset (say, NEC/Renesas u720200 or newer).

I would definetely give that a try, but sadly amazon won't ship the usb controller that you recommend on your website to germany. Any suggestions on how to get one as quick as possible to probably buy ipisoft for 30% less money? (I think you can understand that I want to get it to work before I buy the software)
