I won't lie, I've finally bought my ASUS sensor and have a few mo-cap experiences under my belt. However when i used this system. it feels incredibly underwhelming. I have a lot of jittery issues, and also have a lot of leg mo-cap issues. I have given myself ample space to do the capture and I've tried reducing the yellow, however it still feels wrong. Currently I'll usually scroll through the motions with the capture, and then once the leg/arm/chest breaks i would re-tweak the body to fit the motion. It feels as if this system is best for idle movements and movements in place, however leg movements and walk cycles seem like a problem for this system. Am I doing this incorrectly and is there any other way to get a better result. (Incredibly unhappy with what I'm getting now. (practically unusable)) Feedback would be incredibly helpful |

It's normal to see jitter before Jitter Removal is applied. Are you saying you see jitters even after applying jitter removal? I don't have any experience with the Asus Xtion, but I have done some capture with a single Kinect. I found that single Kinect motions tends to be more 'wiggly' (as opposed 'jittery') than dual Kinect. A couple of the shots in Happy Box were captured using single Kinect, and you can kinda tell them apart from shots that were captured using the dual Kinect configuration. Regardless of which system you use, you need to apply stronger Jitter Removal on the legs than you do with other parts of the body. This is true whether you use single or dual Kinect or PS3 Eye. With enough JR, you can make the legs very steady. Be careful not to turn it up too high though--overly processed motion can look mechanical. I feel I get the best results when I use more Jitter Removal on the legs when the figure is standing in place, and less Jitter Removal when the figure is walking. Hope this helps. G. |

![]() This is my current setup I managed to get the tracking of the cameras correct, however there is some problems with depth where it goes full yellow... Any pointers on how to reduce yellow ness? most of the time though my arms track well, however .... my legs never seem to work well. |

Yellow borders around the silhouette are normal - these are "shadow" zones for a depth sensor. They usually do not decrease the tracking accuracy. If you see much yellow noise all over the screen in 180 degrees setup - this is usually a result of sensor interference. Try to move/rotate one or both sensors slightly so they do not look directly into each other. Yellow produced by reflective surfaces like shiny floor, windows can be elliminated by covering such surfaces with carpets, blankets, curtains etc. Are your legs fully visible to both sensors? Do you adjust the actor's model properly to your proportions? Maybe, you wear too loose pants, try more tight ones. |

Although not the case here, I want to add that shooting in day vs. night can also make a difference. When I shoot during the day, I can get a lot of IR interference in the room coming from the sunlight. The extra noise can seriously degrade capture quality. To solve this problem, I placed fixtures above the windows from which I can temporarily hang lightproof curtains. And when possible, I avoid the problem entirely by scheduling my mocap sessions after the sun has gone down. Just an FYI. :) G. |
