What is the easiest way to get animated point clouds into Maya? The OBJ export produces a non-standard obj file that isn't recognized by Maya. My goal is to get geometry, not particles. With Brekel, we just export alembic and all is good. We are looking for an equivalent path with ipiSoft. Thanks, R |

Hello, we do not have mesh export feature so far, unfortunately. So there is no way. We do not have much experience with Maya. Our obj is pretty much standard and is recognized by 3ds Max. I suppose Krakatoa PRT loader should work for Maya. |

I'm going to try converting an obj into an ABC with the abcClient: WFObjCOnvert. I just don't know if it can deal with a multi-frame obj. (unless it just sees each frame as a different object set) Anyway, I'll figure it out. Otherwise, I'll pull it into Max this evening and try exporting out an alembic. If you ever need Maya side testing or development, let me know. I just wish we weren't under a time crunch. I may end up writing a Maya importer for these OBJ files. thanks for the info! Rick |
