Post subject:  Waking and running analysis with Kinect

Hi All,

I am new in the MoCap technology and also in this forum. I conducti a walking and running analysis project, after reading the information about iPi it looks a great tool for me. I already downloaded the trial version of iPi mocap studio but did not really cope with it.

Capturing the gait cycle I use treadmill, focusing mainly on the movement of the lower limb (lumbal spine, hips, knees and ankles pronation). I would like to record the video adding a “skeleton” frame, calculating angles and exporting the data file to Matlab.

My idea was to use Kinect sensor to capture the movement. Could you help me what technical background I will need to do that? How many cameras are required? What softwares should I use to manage the video and the data?

Thank you for any help.

Attila

Hello,
if the person is always facing the sensor, you can use single Kinect v2 for tracking.
Bascially, you need Kinect sensors and regular PC for that.
Please refer to step-by-step manual:
http://docs.ipisoft.com/User_Guide_for_Single_Depth_Sensor_Configuration

For calculations and export to Matlab you need to use Biomech Add-on:

Our software is not for video editing, but you can export all you see in iPi Studio viewport as avi, including skeleton.

Thank you for the quick answer.
The person is actually backing the Kinect sensor, as the backside of the treadmill is open.
Does it make any difference for modelling?
